In the NBA, one skill separates the stars from the players: the ability to create shots.
Some stars can create for themselves. Others create for their teammates. Players who can create for both are often among the best players in the NBA.
Of course, some players are extremely valuable despite not having this ability. In particular, the 3 and D wings are highly coveted in the league.
Still, a 3-and-D winger who can create his own shot is even better.
Paul George of the Los Angeles Clippers is one of the best examples. By contrast, Dorrian Finney-Smith of the Brooklyn Nets is one of the purest 3D wingers in the NBA.

Should the Nets give up so much to sign him?
The Nets have been given every pick they are trading here during their busy trade deadline. They got three of them for Kevin Durant and one for Kyrie Irving.
Here’s the thing: It doesn’t matter how many choices the Nets have at their disposal. As long as the Houston Rockets have their first-round picks through 2027, they have no incentive to hit rock bottom.
So why not change the choices? This Nets roster is deep, defensive, and versatile. If they added a star this summer, they could be back in contention for the NBA title.
George could be the perfect complement. It replaces Finney-Smith’s 3-D skill set, while also bringing a healthy dose of shot creation.
In other words, he’s a playmaker. With Durant and Irving dead, they need talent like George. Perhaps he could attract more talent, given the market as well.
