Kungu (Thread): I’m over simplifying a bit, but the C’s biggest issue is they’re not defending well at all. There’s miscommunication w. switches, weakside rotation on doubles horrendous, and straight up guys are not defending their yard. Last 5 games, C’s DRTG is 114.3, middle of the road.

They haven’t defended well all season long. Don’t let the defensive rating distract you. They got away from what got them to the finals last season. Teams will continue to ISO and aren’t scared to go 1v1 because they’ll just go through them.

The more annoying part is they tease the great defense every so often

Like last nights 4th quarter the Knicks went a 4:50 stretch with 2 pts and 0FGM

Makes me hopeful for the playoffs that it’s still there but Marcus, Grant, Brogdon all have to start defending the ball better

Their defense is the only thing that’s stopped them from imploding since their offense fell off a cliff. If the defense becomes mediocre too then they might have to kiss even that 2nd seed goodbye.

The optimist in me wants to believe that they’re reserving that extra gear for the playoff run.

Don’t point out the obvious or you’re a doomer

seems like their biggest issue is that they struggle against good double bigs

  7. That and Jayson Tatum has not played like Jayson Tatum aside from the Cleveland game. Thought the defense looked like last year in the fourth plus OT. It was mainly the third quarter where the Celtics made most of their mistakes

The defense looked amazing when they locked in in the 4th for those few minutes. The Knicks were having the ball swiped from them every like third play and missing tough looks. That was also a situation where they absolutely HAD to lock in, but it’s a good sign that they could do so when needed nonetheless. That said they shouldn’t have had to play like that in the first place. They’ve struggled with playing solid D for a whole game for a few games now

Quickley driving to the hoop in the same spot all game made me go crazy

The Knicks played Muscala and Hauser off the court. Smart is struggling. Brown still falls asleep. Brogdon has never really been a defensive plus. These are problems that won’t go away. They are, however, problems that can be hidden with Rob Williams protecting the rim and playing his rover position. Also, playing White over Smart in crunch time (or Grant Williams if they go small) is just common sense at this point.

But, this team team needs Brogdon’s scoring and William’s defense to be successful.
