Cam Johnson Expected To Make At Least $18M Per Season On New Contract

Cam Johnson and the Phoenix Suns were unable to agree to a contract extension before the start of the season before he was eventually traded to the Brooklyn Nets. Johnson will be a restricted free agent this offseason.

Sources tell Brian Lewis of the New York Post that Johnson has a floor of $18 million per season and could easily hit the $20 million mark.

“I’ve said this — because this was a topic of discussion when I didn’t sign the extension — that I’m still under contract at this moment,” Johnson told the Post. “I still had that year; I still have the rest of this year. And my goal right now is to win games and make a playoff push.”

No brainer to lock him up long term. With his defense alone he’d be a way safer signing than Joe Harris was. Not easy to find guys like him on the market and convince them you’re the best option unless you’re way overpaying. As an RFA he’s ours unless we say otherwise

Fantastic all around player that any team would want to have. RFA helps a shit ton for us. Gotta have the Twins stick together. CamJ is worth it to lock him up.

He’s worth the money especially in our scheme. Hes an above average defender who can switch 1-4 and plays passing lanes very well. His offensive game is still growing too.

If we can retain him for under $20M a year that’s an absolute steal

If we are paying $35M for Simmons hes a bargain.

  6. We need to lock him for sure, elite on both end

Do it. Keep the twins together and build around them. Not a hard decision

Definitely should pay him. He’s a really good defender and shooter. It feels like he still has room to grow too.

He’s coming back to the Valley… sorry!

Not only is his d good he also has the ability to shoot. Keeping him around also keeps Mikal happy.

We’re not really in a position to bargain. Being one of the two players traded for KD we have to match whatever deal another team signs him to even if it seems like an overpay.

Hot take, but I’d explore a sign and trade purely because of his age and we’re not contenders. No way would I let him walk for nothing though. Just test the waters to see if a team would give up a good young player, and if not, sign him.

Figured it would be 18 to 20, that’s probably a fair price
