Note: Harden had improved his defensive effort an immense amount after the famous lowlights came up in 2016, the Rockets even were in 7th in defense in 2018 with the Rockets’ switch defensive scheme. Harden was holding his own as well defensively against the KD Warriors in the playoffs as well while they would have scored 150 on Jokic.

It’s because Jokic is white. It’s because he’s getting treated like a point guard.
We all know it.
I don’t think it’s intentional, but I do think they’ve pushed too hard with the subconscious bias. It’s absolutely ridiculous the disparity between white voters and black voters in a league of mostly players of color. To have the vast majority of voters be white as snow is just terrible on all levels.
I think Embiid gets it and it actually brings a little more attention to that.
You’re really really *really* reaching here. Like Giannis on Embiid’s shoulders with Space Jam arms couldn’t make that reach. Lowe isn’t racist. He’s not as sharp as he used to be and gets things wrong, sure. Jokic over Embiid is just silly, I’ll agree with you there.

Maybe…it’s not because he’s Jokic, maybe it’s just because he’s Embiid.
Because he’s Embiid, Zach Lowe wouldn’t choose him, regardless of whether his competition is Jokic or someone else. As long as there is someone who can compete with him, these reporters will not vote for Embiid.
I feel this way because like Harden, Embiid is not treated fairly. When Harden was competing for MVP, whenever his record was good, people would say they need to look at the data (such as Westbrook’s triple-double average). And when Harden’s data was awesome (such as averaging 36 points per game), reporters would say that MVP selection should look at the record.
These reporters simply dislike Harden and Embiid, and Embiid is now going through what Harden went through, double standards and bias. Reporters simply don’t like him and then find various opposing reasons based on his situation.
MVP is a stupid award that is intentionally ambiguous yet every year people try to act like it’s cut and dry and the criteria is the same season to season. Let’s admit it’s all stupid, agree that jokic and embiid have been the best players in the league for the past 3 and just give the MVP to embiid this year. Jokic getting the 3 peat would only make sense if he were head and shoulders above embiid which he isn’t.

I really don’t think it’s a racism thing. I think it’s he has poured so much of his reputation into his “advanced stats” and those stats love Jokic. If Jokic keeps getting MVPs it proves his model is right, but he can’t say he’s voting for him JUST because of his model because then it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy and it doesn’t mean he’s right anymore. This is about ego and insecurities.
