[Charania] Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball will undergo a third surgery on his left knee that is expected to cost him most, if not all, of the 2023-24 season, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. The sides are optimistic of the procedure reviving Ball’s career. πŸ™πŸ½

At this point it’s probably more about can he do normal life activities, vs coming back and being good at basketball again

That sure was a fun half season last year.

0% chance he plays meaningful minutes for the Bulls at this point. He’s potentially going to be in the final year of his contract by the times he’s back, probably using that season to ramp back up to game shape.

Man, this is awful. I hope Lonzo can recover to be able to do normal daily activities, let alone play basketball. We’ll miss him next year, but at least knowing this now gives AKME time to prepare how they will structure the team for next season during the offseason. No excuse of β€œLonzo will be back soon” to fall back on now. Next year’s roster has to be formed without Lonzo in the equation.

Hope it works, if for nothing else to make the rest of the guy’s life more bearable. That’s a loooong recovery. I wonder if we’ll find out exactly what they think the issue is soon.

yeah, blow it up and tank. I hate it, but there is no way back to sustained success without having a treasure chest of moveable assets outside of lavine or demar

More importantly than what it means for our team, I’m hope he can regain some sort of ability to do normal activities without pain, dudes only 25.

Honest question, I feel like I heard the Bulls still will have to pay his remaining salary but it comes off the cap. What has to happen for that if true?

Let me step back and kill myself, Neil Funk.

Since this is basically an admittance that he won’t play next season so we get some sort of insurance payout so that we can spend some money in FA?

NBA owes the Bulls for this, better work that lotto magic & get us a top 4 pick

Dude this is so fucking sad. Obviously he had some good moments in New Orleans, but he seemed like he was really enjoying his teammates & basketball in Chicago… all for that to blow up to dust within half of a season. Not to mention all the work he put in, to become a player that teams wanted. One of the few players that I’ve followed from HS, and now I get to watch his career end in Chicago… such a sad fucking day. Hopefully he can get to a point of enjoying personal life

Why the Bulls didnt trade Zach/Vuc/Demar to dial the timeline back I will never know

As a Pels fan it really sucks to see what dude goes through. Incredibly unfortunate that such an important player is having their career fucked like this

No reason to think he won’t come back at prime form in 2024-25 season.

Probably the worst contract in Chicago Bulls history. That signing set us back at least 5 years.

I feel so bad for this guy. Imo he finally figured it out in Nola and he was a super underrated part of us winning on his arrival. Gets overworked when the pandemic was forcing guys to sidelines, and now his career is in jeopardy. Just sucks to see, I hope it works out for him eventually
