Kungu: To add to this, Tatum shooting 39.5% on C&S 3’s (4.3 attempts) & 28.9% on pull-up 3’s (4.9 attempts). Seems like he should be getting his iso looks in the post, & focus on taking more 3’s off team action vs. self-generation

Why does everyone understand this except Tatum himself?

I don’t get why he so badly wants to iso and shoot pull up 3s when he’s literally statistically horrible at both things lol. Do what works best for you smh

  3. Want to see Tatum more off ball in general it opens up the offense for everyone else too

Something I’ve noticed is that at least once a game he takes a side step three as two-for-one opportunity, right at 32 seconds left for the clock. And almost always misses. Generally when this happens the half court possession starts with like ~42 seconds left and he kills time dribbling beyond the arc before pulling up. Would love to see some other quick plays being called in those instances…

Yes but easier said than done. When you are the main guy and the play is broken you get to take the hard shot because you are the best option. Still, more C&S would be nice.

I don’t love the random pull ups but I don’t care what the stats say Tatum’s sidestep 3 is iconic

I think Tatum knows this but I see so often Tatum will handoff and be wide open for a catch and shoot 3 and someone just forces into 3 people in the lane or they pass it out to grant or someone else. The return doesn’t happen enough.

Tatum’s pullup 3 is still an important weapon to hurt Lopez/Embiid in their drop coverage. I think he’s still going to have to take and make a lot of those shots. The downward trend is worrying (He shot 40% in 19-20, 35% in 20-21, 33% in 21-22 and now 29%) but I can’t believe he’s lost the touch completely.

I do wonder how well the Tatum postup will fare against the Sixers and Bucks. They have a lot of strong/stocky but slow defenders. Defending postups has long been Harden’s best defensive skill and I think it’s probably true of Tucker, Harris, Crowder and Ingles too. Allen, Maxey and probably Melton would be food, but there aren’t too many guys to target with postups on those rosters
