I think Nick answered fine. Obviously as fans, you want a resounding, “I’m re-signing and want to be here!”, but a “I’ll make a decision in the offseason” is the appropriate answer to someone who doesn’t want to focus on that now.

He said it in front of the national media for a reason. It was a self serving move, the theme of the season unfortunately.

These rumours are started by the same local media and he gives an honest answer about his future, so now Will Lou (who claims to know things behind the scenes but won’t say it publicly) is going to create this narrative that he’s checking out mentally so the players won’t buy in anymore? That’s straight up trashy journalism.
I’m sure I sound like the president of the Nurse fan club, but after what he helped do to bring a championship to the city and the classy way he’s handled himself during his time here, we’re really going to turn on him and make him the scapegoat to close out the season? Maybe he does deserve a change of scenery if this is everyone’s way of showing their appreciation.
I think he answered pretty honestly and people are running wild with it. He’s going into the last year of his contract. No doubt he’s waiting for Masai and co to see what they do with the roster and of course waiting to see if they offer him an extension or leave him as a lame duck going into his last season. Hardly cryptic messaging.

Nick Nurse is a great coach and will be top 5 again with a good roster eventually. But he is not exactly Pop level. He is not a life time hire for the team. He is replaceable. His personality is just not rubbing off well on the players and his strategize tactics on the floor are hurting the team. Some times it’s just time for a fresh start. In this case both him and the team.
who cares this version of the team is done with. changes are being made hopefully for the better
I think Nick answered this poorly. I also think people need to realize that Will / SN and other media get paid for engagement, clicks and viewership. It’s a part of their role to spin 2/10 throwaway remarks into 10/10 fires
Been thinking about this all day. The Masai/NN era has produced pretty much zero leaks. The fact this is out there the way it is and NN commented on it the way he did (which you never really see happen here).

I feel like Nick Nurse have just checked out on this team. I don’t have any proof or evidence but just based on his energy during games and his inability to hold guys accountable for their bad shot selection, really makes me feel like he just doesn’t care anymore. If I’m the coach and my team shot and missed 5 straight 3s without even trying to attack the rim, I would flip the F out. If I saw Boucher jump at every single pump fake at the 3 point line, I would DNP him for 3 straight games. There doesn’t seem to be any new schemes, any new innovative sets, everyone just do their own thing, and I feel like he just wants to play this season out.

Boucher is either playing or in the dog house
Flynn can’t get on the court (can’t get better without playing time)
GTJ is worst defensively from when he left Portland
All the starters numbers are super inflated based on them being TOP 15 in mins….if u use per/36 stats everything comes back to normal
He won a chip cause cause of Kawhi coming and LeBron going west and despite what ppl say Dwayne Casey could of at least got to the finals since LeBron split…even with Derozan (we literally only lost Lebrons Cavs 4x, The Wiz, and the Nets when we first got to the playoffs with Lowry)
Nick is gone. Those comments were that of someone on the way out. It is what it is. He can be replaced.

Honestly as a Toronto based Eagles fan this season reminds me so much of the 2019-2020 Doug Pederson/Wentz implosion season. A once “could do no wrong” GM overpaying his own players and desperately clutching to a core that simply does not have it, a stubborn coach with a high profile persona, vets that need to be moved for the team to see success, and a future star that hasnt been handed the keys to franchise yet. A lot of excitement turned to utter disappointment and now we’re just waiting for the season to be over so we can reset. I hope we can rebuild as quickly as the eagles did, but the lack of veteran leadership since Lowry left has me very concerned.
I’m going to give Nurse a pass on this. He’s done a lot for us and the last few years the front office haven’t given him the tools he needs to win. If he leaves, I’d understand.
