Anyone with a brain can see Rick Brunson wanted his son to play in NY. He had been on Thibs staff in the past and very likely knew he’d be joining it again for this season. He was also the first client of NYKs GM Leon Rose, whose son also happened to represent JB.
The initial blame in my opinion falls to Donnie and Cuban for giving Jalen the 4 years guaranteed resulting in UFA instead of RFA. Restricted FA exists to protect teams like the Mavs that are not a free agent destination. They got 1 extra cheap year and then worst case scenario, he left for nothing.
His ability to make players not want to come here more and more every season astounds me
