They aren’t wrong. I mean Brian Scalabrine is a former NBA player. He knows exactly what it’s like to see players tune out a coach. We may not think so but he can see the subtleties because he’s lived it.
Honestly I’m not gonna speak for all the players but at least for Pascal you can see the hint of a rift between Pascal back during the Tampa season when Pascal and Nick got into it and it led to a one game suspension.
Off-season can’t come soon enough, imagine the morale while getting swept by Boston or bucks
This team getting bounced 1st play-in game
Nick Nurse seems arrogant. He has very dominant an attitude, is very vocal in the media about his players and forces his way on the court. That’s fine when you are winning, its called a swagger. But when you are down, you got to be a little humble and open minded. Otherwise you look like a jerk.
I think it’s been obvious for most of the season
ok but this team sucks regardless lol. americans still say “raptors would be a tough out”. literally living off reputation at this point
You get a completely different picture listening to the other team’s broadcasts.
Alvin Williams the propagandist denied the team tuning out the coaches and reiterated it when the Raptors threw a double team on Tatum 30 ft from the basket while they were down 30 points.
When they play like they care, they are a tough out. Unfortunately they appear to be all out of fucks to give.
NN is a legit coach.
The Raptors have a collection of solid players. Unfortunately they don’t have the “glue” to help them form a solid unit (e.g. prime Lowry, Kawhi, Gasoline). It sort of renders the entire team a very useful collection of valuable spare parts…current team would look great in a scrap yard.
I actually like all the players – but I’m hoping they focus on building around Scottie, OG, and Poeltl. I have no idea who the new coach needs to be…Udoka is the hot name (but before this year, the Raptors never really let rumors get leaked…so who knows).
I’m still thrilled about 2019…but I never saw this purgatory coming as long as Masai was in the background.
You either retire a Hero.. or live long enough to become the villain
Celtics announcers were also on one all game so I wouldn’t give it too much value.
Imo Nurse is the type of pyscho competitor that is great when you have a championship capable squad, but when you don’t have the right pieces players get sick of him. Similar to Belichick assistants in the NFL, they can’t build sub par squads.
the celtics announcers are almost as painful as bill simmons, they don’t actually know anything about the Raptors.
Thorpe said the same thing months ago. Fans said he lost the team even before that!!
This isn’t new. Toronto media is just in denial.
Nurse is a great coach and and this teams problem is more of roster issue which falls on the front office but it looks like he’s lost the locker room. I have a feeling we’ll regret losing him in a few years it is what it is.
It’s crazy that he went from winning a title, winning CoY and rapidly went downhill from there. Tampa could have been an outlier but even with a winning season last year we saw signs of coaching issues. Teams started to figure out the schemes, the bench never developed, our starters got played into the ground and now this year may be his last.
I wonder what the issue was? My guess is that the biggest difference is Kyle kept the locker room together and acted as the glue between the players and coaching staff. This is why vets are super important even if all they do is ride the end of bench as “in case of emergency break glass” players. You need vets who have the credibility to talk to both coaches and players. Just being a long time player isn’t good enough, not every old player brings value as a vet but they are so important.
Tl&dr. A lack of vet leadership exacerbated issues between coaches and players to the point that we will likely need a ned coach next year.
Given his communication style hard to imagine why they would bother listening. Been a tedious messaging style all season.
I wouldn’t put too much stock in their analysis. They were paralleling both benches saying there was more togetherness on the Celtics end because they were cheering made buckets, while the Raptors bench wasn’t. p.s. Raptors were down by 30 so there’s nothing to cheer.
Man this sub has really become a bunch of soap opera loving gossip girls. Downvote me all you want. Take ALL my internet points who cares. The fact we are talking about our Coach this way with **no real evidence** is just a bunch of smoke break workplace gossip. We’re posting tweets from random twitter folk. And then off to the races with it! Has no on ever heard of clicks for chaos?
its joever
If this is true then NN should be fired immediately and griffin/Watson should coach the play in game. Why even bother with nurse if it’s a lost cause already.
After tonight that’s definitely the case. The Raptors actually do have a strong roster in their first 6-7 spots, but you can see there is a serious lack of cohesion on defense, and the offense looks like a pickup game. No plan or execution on either end. No matter what Nurse did or said, every guy in a Raptors jersey was out there playing for themselves and getting cardio.
Yup
If nurse is out, it wonder if Fred goes too. For all the reasons the haters love to hate.
Nurse doesn’t adjust his offense, I see no motion other than that handoff after handoff on top of the key that leads into isos anyway
