Scottie’s stats from this and last season are almost identical.

Gonna get downvoted to hell but, a bit concerned from the lack of development.

Ngl this year, with the awful roster construction, and the bad vibes of the franchise, probably didn’t put him in the best position to develop.

Hopefully next season the roster is reshaped to prioritize Scottie’s development on offense, and he puts in a ton of work on his shooting over the summer.

What’s the usage? There haven’t been nearly as many injuries, feel like he had more touches last year. Also teams are doubling him.

  3. TaylorRooksBathwater

His playmaking definitely went up a level, which is surprising given how poor the team has played compared to last year

  4. ijustbrushalot

The massive jump in +/- despite the team record being worse is interesting. Shows how awful the bench is this year.

  5. RaptorsCdwoods

His playmaking and handles have gotten better.

The problem is him and Siakam have the same role so he is never gonna get to take that next step until we move on from Siakam unfortunately.

I think if Masai is brave enough to start the rebuild this offseason we will see a jumo from Scottie next season.

Yeah the counting stats are the same but the shooting splits by distance zone hes definitely gotten worse at the mid range this year.

He’s improved as a player but it hasn’t translated statistically. His impact as a player is probably pretty similar, though he’s been at his very best through the ending stretches of this season.

I think everybody expected a leap, FO included. He’s young and talented but he shares some of the blame for not growing into a better player than he had been last year. He was a huge part of why everybody thought this team was gonna leap this season.

  8. cedceddnceddy

The leap is usually in Years 3-5

Year 1: player catches everyone by surprise.

Year 2: the league adjusts and they look like they regressed.

Year 3-5: begins to adjust to harder defenses and breaks out

This doesn’t even account for Scottie’s preference to be a playmaker, his fluctuating role on the team or the team’s your turn, my turn offense by committee. The fact that he didn’t fall off a cliff and just continued to be the ROY is still promising.

If the team actually clears some runway for him to spread his wings and he’s still the same after yr4, then I’ll panic.

dude with all due respect watch the games… hes been better this year despite his role changing a billion times and despite the weird team drama / chemistry issues.

It’s actually not bad considering alot of sophomores regress before further breakout.

Lack of development is better than regression i guess lol

Same exact team almost. He certainly got better in the second half when he got to play with Poeltl.

Usage also hasn’t changed, but from the eye test he’s more polished

  13. Still can’t shoot, but this sub Reddit things he will magically turn into Curry.

He’s like the 4th/5th option on the team. He was really good & aggressive near the beginning of 2023. He averaged 18ppg in January.

Honestly he is a pass first player that we drafted & are asking to become a score first player. The mindset will take time to shift, which I think is evident in how he will play passive for 2-3 quarters then switch gears in the 4th a lot this season.

At first I wasn’t expecting a jump until year 4 or 5, now I think it’s possible he takes that leap as soon as next season.

Hate to say it but trading Pascal to give him more freedom would prolly help. They have a lot of overlap consider they play the same style, at the same position & neither can reliably space the floor

  15. pakattack91

You’d get downvoted for implying development is solely based off box score stats.

  16. MaggmaX1

If all your doing is looking at the stats and not the games, then sure it looks like he hasn’t improved but the eye test shows a solid improvement in playmaking abilities and, lately, his middy has seemed better as well

I never understood how he was supposed to be a ELITE level LOCK DOWN defender with a weak ass offensive game coming out of college. And then he shocks everyone with his good offensive skill, but a not too special defense. I was hoping it was just a rookie thing and in the next year he’d be a special defender. But I think his game is not what was scouted by professional NBA scouts.

  18. jjkiller26

I know this thread will be full of excuses and reasons for lack of a leap but the main thing he needs to figure out is when to be more aggressive on offense. That’s the biggest problem with his scoring right now is the stretches he goes without even looking to score or take his man 1 on 1
