True shooting is down but all’s well that ends well right?

He played a lot better down the stretch once he finally figured out what his role off the bench is supposed to be.

I don’t even blame him since he’s been asked to play a few different roles throughout the season. Each time it’s happened, he’s needed a few games to learn to adjust his game and he’s *mostly* answered the bell.

Love JP. We are lucky to have him. And the work he put in in the G league is overlooked. My guy worked his ass off. Go Dubs!!

The two biggest leaps he can make in my opinion is of course on defense but also shot selection. No more step back threes unless it’s the end of the shot clock and he needs to continue attacking the basket relentlessly, it’ll open up more jump shot opportunities

From last year to this year:

    FG% .448 –> .430 3P% .364 –> .336 2P% .550 –> .524

    FT% .925 –> .870 TRB 3.4 –> 2.7 TOV 2.5 –> 3.1

Nate Duncan has said in the NBA, a guy who can score all by himself is the single most valuable asset in the league. You have to build around and develop this athlete though.

JP3’s defense needs to get slightly better for the next decade each year.
His decision making needs to mature.
His shot needs to be more consistent game by game.

I think if we have Wiggins and GP2 the whole year, JP3 would have been better than this and thats what he will have next year.

He is our future since he is 23.

  6. He’s streaky. Definitely capable of having another efficient playoff run.

TS+ (his TS as a % of league average)

    80

    102

    106

    99

Which suggests he’s a below average scorer this year. But even worse is when you look at this TSadd, which is basically how many more points he scored compared to average due to his volume/TS

    -123 (lol)

    10

    75

    -23

So he shot so badly and on so much volume that he was a net negative scorer this year

  8. To end with these numbers after how he started the season shows how remarkable he played down the stretch. Glad he’s playing his best ball leading into the playoffs.

  9. Thermoelectron

It just feels like he offers the team nothing and when his shots aren’t falling.

I hope he works on defense and control next off season. Continue his scoring progress to 22ppg for all stars selection.

But shooting from 3 worse than Westbrick

Consistent, linear development is actually fairly rare. If JP can work on the unforced turnovers and defensive awareness I’ll take the streaky and sometimes over aggressive shooting.

It’s his shot selection, if the dude played like he did the final 15 for the entire year he would have a much higher true shooting percentage.

It would also help him if he got some continuity, dude moves from back up secondary ball handler to starting primary ball handler all the time. I doubt that will change anytime soon.
