Does anyone just sit around and just randomly reminisce about Kawhi’s time with the Raptors? Makes me realize how much of a privilege it is to witness a superstar on our team.

This will get me downvoted but I value quality over quantity.

    He’s the groat

I wonder if he ever thinks about what could’ve been if he stayed

    Yes!! Greatest championship ever!! 💯👌🏼🙏🏼

It was glorious. I’d watch a game, we’d be down 7 going into the 4th as confident as we were up 20. (Playoffs excluded, I was not chill).

    Edit, 4th not 7th.

He came here to do a job, and he did it. Being in Cali was what he wanted this whole time.

Lol no. Much respect for all he did but I don’t sit around daydreaming about a player who was here for a season because he had to be.

We must really be down bad this season for the nostalgia posts to start already.

Kawhi / Raptors will go down as the greatest one year stint in NBA history

It’s not fair what Toronto teams have to deal with. No athlete from any sport would ever even consider Toronto and I don’t even blame them. Besides Kawhi (traded here as a punishment) and John Tavares (hometown guy) there hasn’t been any big big name players to ever join any Toronto team. It’s bs

I think about having Kawhi in the bubble often.

No, because as brilliant as Kawhi was we also had an amazingly talented roster around him and I think the roster doesn’t get enough credit…Kawhi gave the Raps a closer BUT they were the #2 seed just a season prior and the #1 seed before that, so it’s not as if he walked into a team that wasn’t talented and then turned things around.

Again Kawhi was brilliant but we were a top-seeded team before he arrived…having a top-10 player is awesome but it takes a hell of a lot more than that to win a championship and Kawhi wasn’t the reason we won…it was a well-oiled machine that season, all the pieces fit, the depth was there, everyone played their role, and Nick Nurse + the players allowed Kawhi to be Kawhi.

Anyway, I don’t mean to rain on your parade because I do wish we had a top 5-10 player who could close out games for us, and I recognize the importance of that BUT I don’t think Kawhi is the reason we won a chip, I think he was just one piece of a large pie and he gets a lot of the recognition because he was the face of the franchise that season.

If Kawhi was on our current roster we still wouldn’t be a championship team, we might be a bit better but the roster is still dysfunctional and the pieces still don’t fit…the 2019 roster was perfect in that all the pieces fit, we were built to win a championship.

Kawhi as his best is top 3 in the nba easily. Can do it all on the court. That’s the player that we had for our run. But that guy, unfortunately, is here one minute and gone the next.

  14. bartolocologne40

I remember when we had Peja and thinking how he’s so much better than everyone else on the team

  15. emeister26

The team the year after was also amazing and fun to follow

  16. tonious35

At least Tennenbaum will always have a reason why he will not open up the wallet. He knows what a player like a Kawhi can do and that is the only few types of player you will go over the tax for

  17. Kawhi was the centrepiece of a great team. We could have won in the bubble if we faced anybody other than the Celtics.

That run was amazing though. We beat 3 potential title teams in the Sixers, Bucks, and Warriors.

  18. JaneDundas

Toronto knew how special his time was. Did it right. Looking back with all love 💕

We were blessed that season. It would be impossible not to think back on those times, appreciate what we had in the team, while also wondering what could have been had he re-upped with us (without the changes being made that he and his camp apparently requested). I think we could have run it back that following season. We had a heck of a run without him to begin with, so imagine having such a superstar in the lineup?

I reminisce more about the year after before covid. Those games were so fun. Terrance Davis, norm, Chris. The bench would just go off made the games super fun to watch

It was a unique situation replacing DeMar .. and Kyle’s resistance to masai’s betrayal of assurances of keeping them intact.

Made the move all in and with a new rookie head coach.
    Load management to be navigated.

Gasol & Ibaka being so effective.
    FVV waking up!

And Kawai getting it done time after time after time. No complaints, no over celebrations … just the work/chip/MVP please and thank you.

Ya, for sure it hurt he didn’t come back. But his demands and posse do seem a lot to make room for.

    We won’t a chip!

  22. Anxious-Sir-1361

Just talked about this on Saturday night, in fact with some pals!

We were remembering what it felt like with a player like that, where a game or series is never over (being down 2-0 to the Bucks)… also his 9 straight points at the end of game 5 (which they did still lose) were brought up that almost delivered the championship.

  23. JustAnotherMark604

Every now and then I’ll watch 2018/2019 Raptors highlights

  24. BowtiepastaMasta

Fuck this guy. He wins a ship and fucks off? Can’t even give the raptors one more season to defend the title? I’m not denying he’s a great player. But the raptors were pretty much there. He added a piece but wasn’t the team. I don’t waste a second thought on that clown.

  25. I was so shocked when the trade happened. My mom was a fringe fan and before the season started and just told her, if you ever plan on going to games, get there as many times this season as you can because the chances of the Raptors having a top 5 player anytime again or soon is so unlikely. Such a luxury to have a player like that and so rare. I think prime raptors Vince was the next closest we ever had. A guy that could just win any game against anyone.

  26. I was around when Bosh and VC were on the raptors, the good times with those guys also felt like when Kawhi was around. But Kawhi got us the chip.

  27. AdSignificant6673

Of course! It was a great feat. Its something a lot of teams can only dream of. Imagine being a Sacramento fan? Or a jazz fan? Ouch, they occasionally have monstrous teams too. Always teased. Lol

  28. Gonnatapdatass

He came to the Raptors hungry for a big contract, and to prove himself against all the doubters and naysayers, hasn’t been that way with the Clippers since he got what he wanted.

  29. Last-Mention-8309

Takes more than a superstar though.

  30. TdotSkunt

You a clown if you didn’t appreciate it when it was happening

  31. crackhousebob

Was just great to witness! I was skeptical that it would work out at first as most people, but Masai put the right players with him.

Depth in the lineup. Crazy talent throughout. Ibaka and Gasol were at their prime. Lowry as captain was definitely a great influence. Veterans and upcoming all-stars.

Hard to reproduce. Warriors were not at full strength obviously but Sixers and Bucks were. Embiid and Giannis were shut down. Amazing how that is done during a playoff series.
