[Speak Context] LeBron James’ agent Rich Paul on the GOAT debate: “You see these guys on TV every day talking about rings. Well if it’s about the rings then it’s Bill Russell… LeBron has been in the finals for half of his career.”

Players with argument for GOAT status:

– Michael Jordan: MJ

– LeBron James: King James

– Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: Cap

– Bill Russell: Ring-Man

– Wilt Chamberlain: The Big Dipper

– Magic Johnson: Magic

– Larry Bird: Larry Legend

– George Mikan: Big George

For the record, Kareem played 20 seasons, was in the Finals 10 times and won 6 of them. He has 6 MVPs, 2 Finals MVPs, 2x scoring champ, 4x blocks leader, made 19 All stars, 15 All NBA teams, and 11 All Defense teams. If we’re talking longevity, he’s surpassed only by LeBron who didn’t play college ball (so he’s younger at year 20).

He also played 4 years in college and won 3 titles there lol and playing that long in college meant his year 20 stats are actually when was 41 years old! At 38 Kareem still put up 23/6 with 1.6 blocks per game playing nearly the full season.

Magic Johnson played really just 12 seasons (he played part of a season in 96) and was in the Finals NINE times, winning 5 of them. 3 Finals MVPs, 3 MVPs, 4 assist leader, 12 All Stars (in 11 seasons lol), 10 All NBA teams, 2x steal leader. If you want to talk about success during his tenure, few people had more winning done than Magic. He was in the Finals basically 75% of his career.

Obviously Kobe is also on this list. Larry was amazing and if you want to put him up there, fine, but Kobe needs to be on the list too.

And frankly Duncan deserves to be on this list. Shaq does too if you’re going to put Wilt or Larry on there.

The GOAT argument is unwinnable. Everyone has their own unique arguments. I’m glad to finally see some pushback though against MJ being the unquestioned GOAT. 6/6 in the Finals is great, but he played 6 other full seasons in Chicago (missed most of his sophomore year). Why that hasn’t been held against him is crazy to me when you got guys like Magic, Kareem, and now Bron that are there every fuckin season even if they don’t end up winning the title. That success is crazy.

It’s not just about rings or finals appearances. As a matter of fact, it’s a stupid subjective debate that preys on the impulses of the gullible and the insecure. We all have our preferences and should respect that others have theirs.

The debate about who is GOAT is actually a debate about how to define greatness

Uhhh Bill Russel played in a very exclusionary era…for those reasons his titles can’t be taken as serious.

Bill Russell was a bit one dimensional.

The point against LeBron case for GOAT is he has 2/3 of the titles of Kareem and MJ and if you take the titles from the discussion Wilt becomes the undisputable GOAT.

Wilt has averaged more than 50 points for a season, has averaged almost 23 rebounds for his career and tell what you want about the 100 pts game, Wilt had a string of four games scoring 60+, no other player ever had back to back 60s. On the top of that he averaged more than 48 mpg one season.

If not for the titles no player comes close to Wilt.

Yea because he’s always assembling a super team 🤣🤣 and STILL only has 4 rings 🤣

If I wanted to hear about how to sell t-shirts out of the back of a car, then I might be interested in what Rich Paul has to say. Otherwise he can shut the f up.

Jerry West was in the finals more than half his career… he just lost with us instead of joining the Celtics though.
