The Toronto Raptors need to make major changes to their roster, and one of the reasons it’s in such a bad spot is Thaddeus Young. More particularly it’s been the decision-making by the front office around the veteran forward. First of all the trade for Thad has turned into a disaster with the player costing the Raptors a first-round pick which wound up being the promising player Malaki Branham. The Raptors struggled mostly as a result of depth this season and the first-round pick would have served the team well this season as well as in future seasons. The trade also got them off Goran Dragic’s contract but with the Slovenian on an expiring deal, they could have just waited it out and opened up that cap space in the offseason.
As if the mistake in the trade was not enough, the situation worsened in the offseason when Thad was extended on a two-year $16-million contract. We quickly fell out of rotation and the player who was worth of a first-round pick just over one year ago was a DNP in the most important game of the season in the NBA play-in tournament where the Raptors fell to Demar Derozan and the Chicago Bulls.
This situation perfectly captures the recent erroneous ways of the Raptors’ front office.

I think this is why Nick Nurse has to go because he has no patience for young player to grow but prefer veteran like thad, I don't understand why he did not use wieskamp when the team struggle on shooting.😞
How can Thad Young be worth a 1st round draft pick?
To be fair, the Raptors management only did this to get something from Dragic rather than letting him leave for nothing, and Thad Young was decent down the stretch last year, but it was questionable long-term and I expected Thad to regress this season.
We should have gotten more for Kyle lowry and avoided dragic completely
This trade was only one of the horrendous ones Masai made. We all get to still watch Norman Powell light it up in the playoffs , again for someone else, after he was The Leading Scorer in the NBA coming off the bench with 17.2 points a game, while we have to put up with brutal GTJ disappearing consistently. What is worse is the Powell's salary is lower then GTJ's.
Kawhi knew which one he wanted and asked the Clips to get Powell NOT GTJ. Masai is a damn train wreck since 2020.
Only good thing from the Thad trade was when he made Embiid touch earth in the playoffs
We lost 1st round pick that we needed and Thad regressed. If Thad played similiar to last season we would be saying that trade work for us. Now we have to waive Thad for 1 mil because he cannot help us. I hope Thad just retires and joins the coaching staff.
Man you keep saying traded a first round pick as if we just straight up traded a first for him. But we traded back like 15ish spots. I know you said it, but you’re still (and most ppl) say a first for Thad. But it’s a first for Thad and a 2nd. Just trying to make it sound worse.
Masai isn’t perfect, he takes his shots. I didn’t like the trade initially either. But this is how we get “free agents” trading for them on expiring contracts. So they come and want to stay. Almost no free agents want to play in Canada. Maybe for a premium.
Also I do blame Nick Nurse for the starter minutes. Guys aren’t developing with little to no minutes at all. And if they’re actually thaaaaat bad show your front office they can’t play and get me some guys that can.
You can’t ride your starters 40+minutes every night and with the style they have to play…that’s just asking to wear your players out.

Kessler would have been a better pick up instead of thad. Plus had to unload Gorans contract to the Spurs. This is all a result from the tampered Lowry Trade which netted us a low bball IQ Precious Achiwua who just can't play.

Given it lots of thought here, I feel the raps are gonna let Nick nurse go. I think they’re gonna let GTJ leave. I feel Adrian Griffin will be named coach. I think they’re gonna draft a guard. They will resign FVV and JP. Thad won’t be back. I feel they will move off chris boucher and Malachi flynn. Free agent wise I see them signing Colby White. I think they wanna go the duel PG like they used to run with Lowry and FVV. Otto porter will opt in.
If you trade KLow at Tampa trade deadline you don’t have to keep Goran contract and so you likely never do Thad trade or just do a second pick.
All I can think when people say this is who were we gonna get for an aging role player who has publicly stated he don't wanna be here 😂

I think if you look at what dragic gave us and what thad gave us and include the part that he will also give us 8 mil of salary cap this season i think hes a W not a huge W but definitely a positive trade
