The Knicks can equalize this by having Brunson play off the ball and catch the ball on the cut so if they blitz him he can pass back out of it to an open shooter. They never adjusted to it. If the Cavs are going to play Lavert over Okoro, the Knicks should counter with mcbride. Play him on garland because he plays at the point of attack. The Knicks trying to hide Brunson on a much bigger lavert was idiotic.
This isn’t new. It happened at different points throughout the season. Knicks just need to move the ball quicker, dribble less and make some shots. They can’t expect to win a playoff series shooting sub-25% from 3.
We also do not put enough pressure on garland and Mitchel when they bringing up the ball.. they should never be allowed to walk into a half court set.. we need to make them uncomfortable even before the inbound pass is made
It was smart for sure but not hard to counter. We shouldn’t be sending Mitch for that screen. It should be Randle or iHart. Guys that can actually set a more decent screen and pass the ball if Brunson decides to give it up. The other move would have been for Obi to give the ball right back. Even better would be Brunson doing a fake cut to the ball and then cutting to the lane to get the ball back in the lane for a floater or kick out.
Second would be to send IQ out there to bring the ball up, have Brunson play off the ball as someone else suggested and then let Brunson attack the basket and look for kickouts to Grimes, Randle/Obi, or even back to IQ.
Need to play Hartenstein with Brunson on the floor together, otherwise they can blitz with no consequence
I like how they don’t show the other time that happened and obi ended up attacking the basket and getting a layup.
