The Toronto Raptors Just Told Scottie Barnes To “Get In The Gym”

Scottie Barnes had the weight of the world on his shoulders after winning the NBA Rookie of the Year award last season but fell short of the lofty expectations.

This was not necessarily a bad season for the sophomore but with the fanbase setting those sky expectations it left perhaps a little bit to be desired. With much of the franchise’s future resting in Scottie Barnes’ hands, many of the team members have urged Scottie Barnes to get in the lab this summer, even the player himself.

What does Barnes need to work on the most and how far can his potential really take him in the NBA?

  1. Scottie Barnes is a 2nd year player lol just because his rookie year was super good that doesn’t mean that over 1 off season he’s going to develop into a veteran high iq player. Growth is not a linear process for most people unless you’re LeBron or Kobe or Jordan etc. I’m still confident that Scottie can improve over the next 4-5 seasons. Look at Sac, DeAarron Fox had been doing nothing for 5 seasons before he took a jump and started winning (along with the backing of the organization, which is an entirely different can of worms). So I don’t think it’s early enough to say Scottie was stat padding his ROTY or whatever. As long as he works on his game he will improve we just have to give him time. If he doesn’t want to work on his game then that’s a different problem.

  2. Dude is just 21. Only 2 yrs removed from being a teenager. We are expecting too much from him and want him to be at Lebron/Luka status, that's not gonna happen. His real test will be his 5th year after the extention. Then we can criticize his heart or whatever. Let Scottie be Scottie, we want him to be comfortable enough to stay here long-term. That's why we didn't trade him for KD… just so we can get a minimum of 7-10 years of good to decent baller instead of 3 yrs max of Prime KD.
