Trae Young has driven more times than any other player in the playoffs (91) but has only had a foul called on 2 of them… Foul called on 2.2% of his drives would have put him 185th out of 190 qualifying players in the regular season.

If you actually watch the games it actually ridiculous how he gets pushed on every layup attempt and they refuse to call anything. Meanwhile Tatum flailing his arms every play earns him free-throws.
It’s completely and utterly been a narrative based change to the way Trae is refd and it’s actually pathetic
The historically dominant teams like LA and Boston get these calls while the historic also-rans like us and Sacramento don’t.
There’s some where they barely bump into someone for the easiest and 1 but Trae (and hunter had this happen last game) get pushed and no calls
On one hand, Trae doesn’t intentionally drive right into defenders and draw contact like a lot of bigger guards and wings do. So I wouldn’t expect him to be among the league leaders in that regard. But he drives and gets hacked so often that he should still be living at the foul line anyway.
That said, if last year’s Miami series exposed the fact that we need a secondary ball handler to prevent Trae from being smothered, this year’s Boston series exposed the fact that we lack size and length in general. Boston is just a bigger and more physical team.
Narratives about him only chucking step back 3’s in shambles
He shoots floaters and throws lobs. That’s very different from driving to rim. They classify them both as driving but it’s a very different skill set.
You should post this to r/nba
