The Toronto Raptors had sky-high expectations for the for reigning Rookie of the Year, Scottie Barnes for this season, but the player fell short..
It was not as if Scottie Barnes had a bad season necessarily but as a result of the expectations based on his rookie season, his sophomore season may have left a but to be desired. Scottie Barnes improved his game in some ways this season but he also regressed in others. The 2021 4th overall pick is a big part of the Raptors and Masai Ujiri’s future plans but there are certainly ways for him to be more effective.
This season, one thing above all else was the most concerning aspect of his game which harmed not only his output but also the team’s success or lack thereof on the court. The good news is, there’s a new way to fix this habit and change his game for the better.
Scottie Barnes is an exceptional prospect, and I have a lot of faith in his future. It’s natural for players as young as him to go through a period like this.

I believe in scottie I think he needs a bigger role and be able to shoot more and drive the ball and make plays for the team and get shooters around him
What do you think Scottie Barnes' NBA ceiling is?
To be clear, this is not me doubting Scottie Barnes, this is me dissecting how he can take his game to the next level. He's got an extremely high ceiling!
Congrats on 14k!🥳In terms of Scottie’s efficiency, context matters. This year u could tell the coaching staff wanted him to start developing a mid range. He doesn’t have it yet to be brutally honest, but that’s definitely a factor to his efficiency hit
the future is bright in Toronto, let's see if the Raptors maximize it!
I think he is still gonna improve quite a bit
You clearly don’t play basketball. You need middys to keep the defence honest. Look at kawhi look at Booker. Mid range shots are needed in your bag. But again this is what happens when non hoopers make basketball content.
Dude is 21…… give him time
I think Scottie can become an elite mid range shooter. He had a decent mid range shot his first season
I ask, what have the players drafted before him done in 2 years? Not much. Scottie is fine he will be great.
Projected to be a zero level scorer out of college we seem to forget. Check number 4 piks for the last 5 years scottie numbers better or on par. Nothing to see here
Run the offenses thru Scottie get rid of Fred trade Pascal with a bunch of good 3 &d players play your bench . Benton and Jeff dowtin. Achuwa
I don't think Scottie should eliminate the mid range jumper from his arsenal altogether, I think that's a bit much. Does he need to improve on it though? Absolutely. Even in his rookie season, he showed multiple times that he has the potential to perform it effectively, he just needs to develop better mechanics and rhythm to it. once he has that, that'll open his range past the 3 point arc.
As for the mid range shot in general, as long as you have players like DeRozan, Butler, CP3 amongst others just to name a few who are hitting it with regularity, then it won't be going anywhere anytime soon. People said that the center position is dead, but clearly that's not the case. I think relying too heavily on advanced analytics will put some players and teams in a hole.
I think of a team like the 2017-18 rockets whose entire offensive scheme was predicated on adv. analytics and they ended up literally shooting themselves for it when they missed 27 consecutive 3's in the 2nd half of game 7 vs the dubs in the WCF. They easily could've taken a few mid range jumpers to at least get themselves back into rhythm or to keep the defense guessing.
Scottie needs to be a scoring machine first.
Scottie needs to be the play maker for the Raptors. He has that vision and should use it. I do agree, Scottie needs to get that personal trainer in place through the summer and come back in great condition. Your observation is right on ! Bad shots and defence that was not up to par. Hmmmm !
If we want the best of scottie, we need to let him be our No 1 player not our third behind siakam and FVV, I saw a great improvement how he attacked the rim this season but he still need to focus on 1 step on a time but not willing to be best on everything ( defense-shooting-playmaking-etc…)
Scottie is Ben Simmons with a pair of balls. He has high upside but imma keeps saying this we need to surround him with at least two knock down shooters and get rid of Siakem
What I find most concerning is that the entire team regressed! Not 1 or 2 players but the entire team! That means there was something affecting the entire team and hearing the stuff about NN it mightve been him…. the offense was bad the defense was bad and schemes were bad all while over playing the starters and not giving the bench any consistent play…. not even Dowtin… hopefully we get Ime and he works wonders with this team and they get some shooting
Pretty insightful stats, much deserving of a tweet!
he has to shoot mid range teams sag off him in pick n rolls and go under in screens.
Not disrespecting Scottie,he wants to be a Majic Johnson type player! There's a reason why those guys are far and few in between! RAPTOR fans are delusional if they think hes going to be a guard! You all going to figure that out when FVV gone and he's forced to handle the ball! His best attribute is going to the rack, yet seems to shy away from contact.Gets rattled easy, and that's not something you're point guard can do,the best guards in the League involve the rest of the guys more, when there struggling! Dont think he will ever be super max or even max type player. Keep hearing dump Spicy& FVV,where are those points going to come from! Sure isn't the bench, got one pick this season then 0!! Sure can't continue playing guys 40 min.IMO MASSAI has a part in this debacle, several guys on that bench aren't and won't be NBA players! Good core of players, but you got get them off the court more! Fatigue & injuries are going to rise with minutes!
…is listening to any advice from Fred😂
Stop with this uninformed narrative of Scottie not working hard enough. There were several factors why his stats didn’t improve. Multiple injuries being one of them. The only reason he’s here is his hustle and growth over the last few years. Find something else to talk about on a slow day
I dunno if its shot selection. I dont think he has much of a shot in general.
I somewhat agreed with your take..I thinks it's fair..but the next side to your take is..his action on the court at times is because of Internal issues with coaching staff..he lost that passion an fun for the game this season base on locker room issues an thats where he fail..he shouldn't allow that to get the best of him…what was ask from him was alot different than his first season with the team so that plays apart too
Give him floor spacers and emphasize attacking the rim instead of perimeter shooting.
Barnes only fell short with people who dont know shit about basketball.
Scottie Pipen in second season was 14.4 pts 1.9 stls 6.1 Rebounds 476 FG% 273…3P%
Scottie Barnes in 2nd season was 15.3 pts 4.8 ass 6.6 Rebounds 45.6` FG 281..3P%
Leave Scottie alone and stop the negative press. The Leafs lose for many decades yet they never get the scrutiny that you are putting on 22 yr young straight male
Taking out his shooting is not a possibility I think people should get used to him developing that aspect of his game. The team brought in a centre and made him more of a perimeter player on purpose. He was never going to be a great shooter in his second year and that was always the plan. He can't be a solely interior player on a team with a center that can't space the floor. He needs to improve his shot like og , siakam etc.
