The Atlanta Hawks Are Hiding A Monster…

Although the Atlanta Hawks fell in the first round of the playoffs to the. Boston Celtics despite a valiant effort to comeback down 3-1. Despite them being in a weird middle zone between contention and the bottom of the league. One thing I was very impressed by was their second year forward Jalen Johnson. The 6’8 220lb forward from Duke has had an interesting path to the NBA. Coming out of high school he was viewed as the next big time Duke one and done star. Following in the footsteps of Brandon Ingram, Jayson Tatum, and Zion Williamson. However due to a combination of injuries and other factors. Johnson would end up only playing 13 games for the Blue Devils before leaving the program to prepare for the draft halfway through the college season. Despite not completely living up to the hype at Duke. I still viewed Jalen Johnson as a top 10 player in the 2021 draft as a big athletic forward with passing tools and defensive upside. And I thought the Hawks getting him at pick 20 was incredible value. Johnson spent a lot of his rookie season in the g-league where he actually played well. And in year 2 he found himself getting around 15mpg over 70 games. Despite limited opportunities, I was impressed by what I saw in the play-in and playoffs from Johnson. And I think it’s something that Hawks fans should be excited about.

My name is Noah Terranova. On this channel I make videos breaking down the film of basketball players in both long term and single game contexts. I use a combination of advanced stats, basic stats, tracking stats, and what I take away from watching the games to form my evalutions. My goal is to give my own perspective on the game with my own little twist on how I choose to present it.

  1. If the Hawks decide to use him as an option to run the offense threw for dribble hand offs and screens just 25% to 50% of the time as part of the offensive sets.. Just like the Spurs did with Duncan, GS does with Green, The Kings do with Sabonis. It will open the offense up big time allowing Young, Murray and anyone else to do dribble handoffs into pick and roll, double drags, pin downs, back door cuts all off movement. It would really open up the offense and prevent the trap blitz that the Hawks face when Young has the ball 90% of the time that teams love to deploy against the Hawks.

  2. Already a monster in transition. He just needs reps and a better jumper. Also turning into a decent wing defender

  3. We’re not hiding him trust me he will get way more minutes next season Jj is beast and Quin knows it that’s why AJ griffin barely played toward the end of the season. Bet he will be most improved two way player
