Dennis Schroder responded to Steve Kerr saying the Lakers “took some flops” during Game 5 against the Warriors. “If they set illegal screens, sometimes you gotta show them that they are moving on the screen.”

I don’t know why “The Athletic” isn’t an approved Twitter tweet on this sub but anyway I have to type something. But here is the link to the actual tweet.

This is the complete link. I don’t know what more I can say. It is relevant to a lot of context of why people get upset to why Lakers are getting calls and why Dennis got the call here, and why he even attempted it, even if it was an actual correct call.

  1. Schroder did an interview with Adin Ross after last game? Wild

He ain’t lying, other teams are starting to do it more. I hate how the screen sets like 3 picks all withing 3 feet. Its like screen i missed him hold up come here screen again. The screen is head hunting a the man. Chasing him its weird. I hate how they roll and seal off the screened man…

As a neutral, its cool when they respond to each other.

  4. Cherry_Venus

I would rather the refs just called the illegal screens rather than call the flops, flopping just makes for a bad tv product.

  5. dat_tech

He fumbled the bag but he didn’t fumble on this response

  6. bulletinman

I’m neutral on this series but he’s on point on those illegal screens

I knew if I was in Milwaukee and I set that I’d foul out in the first quarter, but playing in Golden State, when they started to become that underdog team that was building up, I knew once Steph or Klay got hot, the refs would be in the moment as well.

I could literally clothesline someone off the next pindown, I know Klay just hit 3 in a row, the crowd’s on their feet as he’s getting his 4th and I could punch somebody in the face on a screen, knock em out and they wouldn’t call it. Klay would get his 4th 3, and even the refs would go ‘Wow’ (and ignore it), it was crazy.

Then I get traded to Dallas to set those same screens and I’d get 3 fouls in the first quarter, It was just crazy with the stuff I used to get away with there.”

Sometimes flopping increases when the whistle is missing.

The pendulum swings between “refs are not letting players play the game” and “players are flopping way too much”

Warriors have been setting illegal screens for years. Going back to the Cavs/Warriors series. Hopefully they actually start cracking down on it

Absolutely love the quote. The fact is it’s still a foul on golden State. And if flopping makes the ref see it, than that’s awesome.

The only time I have an issue with a flop is if it’s trying to sell a foul that didn’t happen.

  11. the NBA has set this precedent by not calling a foul unless someone hits the deck.

Elon Musk is a fuck and put the final nail in the coffin for twitter

  13. Steve Kerr’s head would explode if he had to play the Celtics

  14. XxAuthenticxX

Ugh I hate both teams but Dennis is spitting facts

  15. Flopping vs illegal screens, the real battle of this post season

  16. NoPin5154

I think the most telling thing is bogut talking about the shit he got away with

  17. How bout refs actually do their fuckin job and call the shit they see and stop rewarding flopping

  18. cthree000

I think really this the result of a lot of results-based reffing. A lot of times they’ll just wait to see the result of a play and then call what looks optically better. Someone gets laid out every possession? That looks bad, whistle will be blown. Exact same BS illegal screens except you try to fight through them? That’s gonna get some hype 3 pointers, we will allow it.

  19. ih8reddit420

google illegal screens and the warriors come up 😭

Bogut already admitted it. Hypocrisy goes wild

  20. hoagieclu

he is 1000% right. take the tatum push off on maxey the other day. maxey was definitely pushed, but still tried to stay on tatum and make the play: no call. if he had launched himself across the floor after the push though, refs probably would’ve called it. as annoying as flopping is sometimes, it’s the only way ref’s will call actual fouls.

obviously, flopping in general is annoying and takes away from the game, but in this instance i see why players do it

  21. djsider2

The issue is this wasn’t a flop. How should I say it… it was “embellishing”

The line between the two is something Refs get horribly wrong

  22. mallllls

lol they flop way more than just on screens

  23. FallacyFrank

Schroeder doing an Adin Ross interview to defend flopping and y’all are eating it up lmfao

  24. KarAccidentTowns

Being a ref sounds like the worst job ever. The current refs aren’t that great but I don’t know who else will do it. Pay them more. Replace them with AI. I’ve been watching more NHL playoffs this year because I appreciate how the penalties are less frequent with greater consequences.

  25. Jammeson

Maybe Curry should start flopping when he gets grabbed offball every possession like wide receivers do in the NFL so that can start getting called too, great point Dennis.

  26. OpeningStuff23

The warriors are the champions of moving screen abuse so this is fair

  27. KazaamFan

Let’s not pretend Schroeder doesn’t always foul bait and embellish on other plays. So many times he looks and begs to the ref at any small thing, not just on screens. Flopping doesn’t exist in pick-up really cuz that’s not how the game is played. Flopping is minor in college cuz it’s unsportsmanlike, it shouldn’t exist. Only call real fouls/violations, the Klay one Schroder flopped on last game was nothing and he grabbed his face and fell to the ground like he was hurt. This is what sucks about soccer too.

  28. Burning_Abyss_

Kinda unrelated, but Ive been really disappointed with the refs calling a foul if a player misses a basket. Imo either call the foul in the moment or not at all—not seconds after the play. I would say i have seen this in at least 90 percent if not all of the games this post season and its pretty annoying for the flow of the game and as a viewer.

  29. wannarave

They should call the illegal screens. They should also call every time Lebron and AD lower their shoulder and just charge into people, or at least allow players to defend it with equal contact.

  30. SirGuerbiz

The warriors bout to miss the playoffs next year if teams start doing this.

  31. shoutsoutstomywrist

A fair rebuttal, Golden State have been getting away with illegal screens since 2015 it feels like it’s nothing new

  32. IMKudaimi123

For the love of god can the NBA do something about floppping

  33. Thellamaking21

Ya idk the nba must want it like this because they could’ve changed it years ago

  34. Flopping will never win a championship ie james harden’s rockets

  35. theseustheminotaur

I like how Kerr wants to add new rules when we aren’t even enforcing the ones we’ve got

  36. I think LeBron finally figured out the warriors moving screens
