Lots of “could’ve been betters” when it comes to the front court. Allen could’ve been better, straight up. The guards clearly could’ve been better at gang rebounding, including in those clips. And the team could’ve made the Knicks’ big, slow front court pay on the other end of the floor if they could’ve stretched the defense with more shooting.

Seems like more shooting and more depth would help address the subpar play we got from our most important players.

The point where they mention the cavs not being the only team playing two non shooters is not a good one given their comparisons. They mention the warriors, the suns, and the lakers. I agree we don’t have a reliable wing that can space the floor, but the comparisons still struggle to be apt ones for me.

The warriors are the only team where I agree neither big can shoot hardly at all. I shouldn’t have to say why the warriors aren’t a good comparison, but in case I do, the warriors have arguably the two best shooters ever and one of the best motion offenses we’ve seen. That alone alleviates their spacing concerns with those two. They also play at a pace that is practically the opposite of us, but I didn’t see that mentioned.

The suns are not a good comp given that ayton can actually hit the mid range and does so far more than Allen and Mobley. In the entirety of the season, Allen shot 64 shots between the 10-19 foot range and Mobley shot 147. That combines for 211 shots between the two. Ayton alone attempted 272 shots in between the 10-19 foot range. That’s not to say I like ayton better, I don’t, but he spaces the floor more than either of Allen or Mobley given his shot diet and the fact that he does shoot the mid range shot.

The lakers are also a poor comparison given the same stats. Again here, Mobley and Allen are lower combined than Anthony Davis who has 213 shots from that distance. He can also reliably create for himself more than either.

The rest of the points are fair arguments mostly, but I’d also like to say as someone that does desire to move Allen, that it isn’t because he’s bad (he’s a really good center) or because he had a single bad series, it’s about pros vs cons and the return you’d get. I believe moving him could net the team the things we need to compete. If we already had those things or had other assets I don’t think I’d be advocating for the move otherwise.

Watching Ayton in this Suns series is making me want to get rid of Allen even more. They’re both the same level of soft in the playoffs, and Ayton isn’t getting any better.

  4. Its not that i dont like Allen but no team playing 2 big guys that dont shoot from 3 is having a good time. We need more space to operate on offense so either Mobley develops a shot or we will struggle to generate good looks.
