I really don’t think people understand that 95% of the league gets coaches that specialize to their need as does the coach. Monty won’t come to a rebuilding franchise because he is a championship level coach. This is why Cleveland dismissed Ty Lue after LBJ left. Our next coach is likely a development specialist or a very young coach.

Suns fans really thought they could clown us during our rebuild.

  3. It’s always been crazy to me how a team can do as well as the Suns have the last few seasons and still fire their coach. Like, only one team wins each year. Making the Finals and the WCF is a huge success that most teams in the league can only dream of.

Would love to see him as the future head coach. But have to think the Bucks will take a hard look at him.

We now got our pick of potential Pop successors it seems with Brown, Bud, Williams all on the market atm.

Can’t believe I’ve seen all the disses on Monty in Asian NBA forum just to see people embracing him here lol. I saw a longtime Sun fan rejoices when he sees Monty has left the team.

Pop bringing in Brett, Bud and Monty for a little reunion for his last couple seasons.

If we’re being realistic as to what to expect from the next coach (continue development, start making the playoffs) then I’d be fine with any of the common names (Brown/Bud/Monty) tbh. But if you’re thinking “We’re closer than we think before we’re title contenders” then nooooooo to all of the above. Those are the guys before the guy that takes you places (coaching wise)

It’s just tough knowing that we’re going to downgrade at the coaching spot no matter what lol. GOAT problems

But regardless I don’t see Pop retiring this offseason (or next) so the names available will be different

I dunno about him being Pops successor, but I get it. All these coaches out in the open market can be tempting, but don’t be quick to forget about some of the assistant coaches currently employed by the Spurs. Matt Nielsen has championship pedigree in Euroleague and NBL. And while young, I think Mitch Johnson has some coaching chops you shouldn’t quickly overlook

Ishbia trying to put his own stamp on things is all I can see from this

I don’t get how you can fire your coach after the FO decimated the team after the trade deadline.
