[Carmelo Anthony] On not winning a championship: “I’m at peace…that doesn’t bother me no more today as far as… winning a championship… for me, I won back in June of 0’3, shaking David Sterns hand.”

Yeah, in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t really matter lol. His grandchildren’s grandchildren are gonna be rich.

  2. DetectiveCoutinho

Bro has an NCAA title which imo is harder than the finals to win. He good.

  3. SoDakZak

If I’m Bron I’m absolutely sending my friend a “Shook David Stern’s hand, 2003” banner for my home gym

  4. Number1LakersHater

Does having just a ring matter or does leading your team to the finals and winning matter? is Zaza better than Kawhi and Jimmy butler?

  5. OnlyMamaKnows

Winning a NBA title never seemed that important to him while he was playing and in his prime TBH.

He was capable though. Basically single handedly won the NCAA Syracuse title.

  6. Alternative_Leg9446

He could have easily won a championship if he joined Lebron and Wade in Miami. Respect to Melo for taking his own road.

  7. HolyRomanPrince

There’s 450ish players in a given season. Only 12-16 win each year. Rings are fun for barbershop legacy debates but nobody that made the league and consistently played should feel like a failure for not being one of the 3% that does win a ring each year

Kobe was great, but the The 2009 WCF was winnable if she showed up after game 1. Series tied game 3 in Denver he no shows in a 6 point loss. He plays worse in game 4 and they blowout LA, that’s how talented that nuggets team was.

They win that series I believe they beat the Magic and win the chip

  9. Patrick McCaw is a 3x champion and he’ll be forgotten.

The Championship only adds to the legendary status, it doesn’t solidify it.

  10. rumblegod

Respect, most people don’t win so good mindset

  11. BrolysFavoriteNephew

There a tons of player who’ve never made a finals or got a championship, it’s not meant for every single great player. Melo gave it his all playing his way that made him great. Forever a legend and one of the few great “hoopers”

  12. LeGJOaT69966996

I agree for his caliber of a player and the way he competed he’s a type of guy to be like if it happens it happens.

  13. Raider_Tex

Fans and Media will boil down players whole careers simply to whether they won a ring or not and Call it a abject failure if they don’t, then wonder why we got the era of stars teaming up to win rings

  14. NoirPochette

Got those three Olympics Gold. Rare company

  15. YetAnotherFaceless

“Now he tells us!” — management, Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Shanghai Sharks

  16. Intrepid-Concern2978

I thought it was clear he didn’t care about rings after he forced the sign and trade to NY rather than signing as free agent 4 months later

Honestly, it may be harder to win a single elimination 64 team tournament than an nba title, I’m almost certain more nba players have nba rings then college natty. Also, three time gold medalist, it’s not like this guy hasn’t won shit.

  18. TheHazelwood38

sad that more players don’t think like that. You got generational wealth and fame, all star games, HOF, Olympic gold. Not everyone gets the ring, that shouldn’t be a make or break for a career.

  19. Montag3636

Honestly he should have been apart of the pistons team that won. Maybe they win another if he is on that squad

  20. TheCoxer

He’ll be a NYK legend for life anyways and that is rarer than being an NBA champion

  21. goblue202320242025

Yea I feel like in the grand scheme winning a championship isn’t necessary for most guys. I think they would like to win but a lot of role players who won a title would trade places with melo in a heartbeat

It’s also wild how Melo probably would have more than one title(imo it would be 3) if the pistons drafted him

  22. kakamalaka

3x gold medals, led an NCAA champion as a freshman, and single-handedly established the international legacy of hoodie-melo as THE walking bucket

    Not bad

  23. Sportslegend

Legendary run to the NCAA title as a freshman too

  24. thechort7

Dude has an NCAA championship, 10 all-star appearances, a scoring title, 3 Olympic gold medals, and he made about $400 million doing it.

Someone who’s done all that before the age of 40 should definitely not be disappointed with themselves.

  25. HotspurJr

I mean, it’s clear from Carmelo’s choices that winning wasn’t the most important thing to him.

And that’s okay. That’s a choice a player can make. Carmelo made a shit-ton of money, was the leader of a team in the biggest city in the U.S. That’s all fine. He wanted to be a big star more than he wanted to win. That’s a choice he’s allowed to make.

And it’s also fine if fans don’t really love him for it.

  26. Yeah, it’s too bad Carmelo’s legacy will never match up to #2 pick and NBA champion Darko Milicic.

  27. DirtTurdJoe

Syracuse 2003 run will not be forgotten any time soon.

He’ll always be remembered as a champion to people in Syracuse and northern NY state at the very least.

  28. nomadofwaves

He never really seemed like a player who cared about winning one. His career seemed like a 9-5 job situation. I never really heard about him be ultra competitive with a huge desire to win championships.

Obviously winning one he’d be excited I just never viewed him as having that drive.

  29. HoagieTwoFace

Completely different career if he gets drafted by Detroit

  30. vonkillbot

You know how big that list of greats is that never won? He’s a gold medalist, NCAA champ, top 10 all time scoring leader and looks hella cool in hats. He’s good.

  31. who_likes_chicken

I was born and raised in Denver, and I’ve been a nuggets fan my whole life.

I would say my first “non-kid” memories of basketball (actually watched and understood the game at a mature level) start like two years before Melo was drafted.

I always look at that Olympic gold as an iconic part of Melo’s tenure in Denver. It was so cool to watch him go off in those games 😀

  32. DaBaTaKa

It’s kinda crazy that for what he’s accomplished and how good he was, he only recorded two triple doubles in his entire career. You’d think he had more just by chance.

  33. mr_antman85

Ring culture will ruin everything. If you watched Melo played, you know how great he was. Charles didn’t win but is a great player.

  34. Mickeyjj27

Anyone who’s had a decent career in the nba especially now is a “winner”. You either play the game for the money, winning a title or love of the game. I’m sure they all would love to have won a title but I don’t think he’s gonna wake up in the middle of the night and cry because he never chipped…. As long as he can take a joke like Championship Chuck

  35. TBH, I’m surprised he didn’t play anywhere this year. He was honestly a capable bench stretch big last year, and there are teams that could have used him. He’s way fucking better than this version of Kevin Love.

  36. Daikoozi

I respect his mentality/response for this. All in all Melo had an amazing basketball career and there’s tons of players who would love to achieve what he was able to.

  37. ISquirtleJuice

just playing in the NBA is an accomplishment on it’s own. he may have not won a chip but he left his mark on the game forsure, and a lot of players would be blessed just to be able to do that alone

  38. GoSacKings916

RiNgZ culture is toxic as fuck. I’d rather be Melo, Reggie Miller, CWebb, or Barkley than some scrub or role player who was a bus rider on championship teams.

  39. Saucy_Totchie

Happy to hear he’s okay with it. Despite no championship Melo left behind an amazing career anyone would envy.
