Talks about how we did it the right way but getting screwed over and won’t be able to keep our young core together (again). What are our thoughts on this?

Nope, don’t care. Presti knows a lot more than Simmons about the cap, he has proven to be savvy with the cap in the past, and if it ultimately comes down to not being able to sign 4 maxes, I’d much rather be in that scenario than not having 4 guys worth giving maxes to. We also still don’t really know how things will shake out throughout the league with the changes, and could very well see a return of middle of the road contracts, instead of half of the teams being entirely made up of Max contracts, rookie scale deals, and vet minimums. Anybody getting worked up over something that can’t possibly be an issue until at least 3-4 years from now, and very well might not be an issue, needs to chill out and take a breath
To me the new CBA just means team building will become so much more important. You’ll need top end players, guys willing to come play for your team and young players with good contracts to contribute. I think it prevents dynasties but OKC will have as much of a chance as anyone to compete in the future.
He’s also not correct. The CBA is designed to help teams that build through the draft.
It really doesn’t impact us, because we don’t use mid level exceptions. So all the upper luxury tax tier does is take away tools from tax paying teams that use the mid level exception, like the Lakers, Clippers, Warriors, Heat of the nba. It’s the sexy destination markets who trade all their picks all the time thar will be punished in the upper tax tier. It takes away one of their means to get better, not the means of the teams that have draft picks and add players through the draft.
If our owners are willing to pay the luxury tax, then it isn’t a problem.
The punitive measures limit some options, but those are options we, and about 2/3s of the league, don’t use.
Is there an [echo](https://www.reddit.com/r/Thunder/comments/13w0qao/comment/jm92vuc/?context=3) in [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Thunder/comments/13v4c9a/why_the_future_of_nba_contracts_might_ruin_the/)?
Salary cap going up in a few years and signing some of our guys like we did with shai to long term deals before that could help as well.
PSA: If it’s Bill Simmons talking, you can ignore him. Regardless of topic.
I think his premise is wrong. The new strategy shouldn’t be “sign two guy to maxes and then be fucked with the rest of your roster” unless it’s the best of the best guys. Teams that have a a core of good players should give out good balanced contracts and it becomes an alternative way to build a team instead of pay the max guys.
Bill Simmons is an idiot.
