Who’s available? There aren’t that many floor general point guards in the NBA any more.

It’s almost like the center debate for me. It’s hard to have a superstar at every position. A true point guard that can shoot, is not easy to find… they are usually superstars because again, they can shoot and run the offense. Same thing with a center. You can say “we need a better center, who can play defense and shoot”…. Ok, centers that do that are superstars. They are the elite players on their teams. For better or worse our elite players are our Tatum/brown. Surrounding them with smart/white/brogdon. And Al/Rob/Grant is pretty damn good and about as good as you can ask for unless you add a “superstar” at those positions… which we really can’t/won’t if our team is going to be built around brown and Tatum. It’s like
The sixers with embiid & harden saying they need a legit scoring wing etc. it’s rare to have 5 elite guys

I would take playoff Rondo right now. Immediately

It’s a tough question, because as Tatum continues to improve we want the ball in his hands more and more. So, we need someone who can run the offense and get Tatum/Brown into their spots, but they also need to be able to play off-ball and stretch the defense.

Guys like CP and Rubio might as well be Smart when they don’t have the ball.

  5. I would be in favor of a Brown for Trae Young swap. I get that he’s always targeted on defense but there’s something about clutch playmaking point guards that are so fun to watch. I don’t think I can handle unforced turnovers do to poor handles anymore.

Time Lord lobs per game would also increase dramatically.

No I think we need to put the ball in the hands of our point guard that we currently have though instead of making Tatum run the plays from half court. Doesn’t matter who our point guard is if that’s our game plan. Sick of the stale no motion iso offense, smart is plenty good at handling the ball and playmaking, we just don’t use him properly.

Yea, I think we do. Jaylen can’t dribble and we need to be able to spell Tatum w/o our offense just going to total shit. Brogdon could be a good option but he won’t last a regular season, he needs to be off the bench to preserve his health.

Haliburton. How many times do I have to repeat myself and ultimately get downvoted?

Yeah. I think having the J’s as playmakers has run it’s course. They need a guard who can create, get players into spots, shoot and defend

It’s good enough when they are out there together. Early in games where they get in transition and can hunt mismatches

They might need someone to handle the reigns when one goes to the bench (even if Tatum is still playing well) and especially down the stretch when the game slows down.

The thing is that that they may already have that player. Perhaps the role just needs to be refined

No we don’t. We don’t even have a playbook. We need a coach.

What this team needs is an overhaul in offensive game plan. They need to do more off ball actions that get players easier shots. The current roster is talented enough, they don’t need anything else. They need a new game plan and mindset change.

Yes. But no one is available.

One thing for certain, I’d take 2012-2016 Rondo over Marcus Smart. That’s for damn sure.

I don’t think the problem is any one position group. Even if you have a great table-setter, it’s not reasonable to ask him to consistently get great looks for limited players. Some guys are mostly spotting up from 3 (Grant, Hauser, Muscala), some guys can do a little more, like drive and drive-and-kick (White, Brogdon), but no one besides the Jays is dynamic. No one else can be unpredictable out of the action and genuinely challenge a defense. No one else can consistently break down a defense and get a bucket.

I’m not saying we need to overhaul our roster with bucket-getters, but if we add 1 guy like that to come off the bench, like Bojan Bogdanovic or Jordan Clarkson, it could open up the floor for the role players to excel in their roles and for the Jays to not have to carry the offense every minute of every game. And I’d guess Brogdon would be the odd man out, especially given his salary ($22.5 million) and the cap constraints of the new CBA.

Is Mike Conley washed? Always liked his game

  15. LegalTravell

Yea or at least a coach who knows how to set up an offense and can develop Marcus

  16. GooseMay0

If Smart was 25, they’d be fine. He could make up for his inability to drive consistently and subpar shooting with his defense. But the dude is an old 29 and no longer the same defender. His first step is below average, shooting below average, passing average and sometimes a little above. He’s a good pg off the bench. This team ain’t winning shit with him as the starting point guard.

  17. THEtoryMFlanez

Putting prime rondo on this team makes them win multiple chips

  18. new_york_sour

Let’s be real here even if they get a point he won’t get the ball. There’s already 3 guards on the roster. Maybe if they get a vet like cp3 that the jays are fine with passing the ball to.

Kidd or Rondo might be a bit rusty these days…
