Congrats Pistons fans. Couldn’t ask for a better coach as a young team trying to learn how to win.

  2. RookieAndTheVet

Holy shit. Is that a record for a coach? It’s gotta be.

  3. Cheechers23

    Holy fucking what

That’s gotta be the biggest coaching contract I’ve seen in the NBA. Jesus

  4. ThatInception

    *Sheeeesh*

Monty got *paid* haha good for him and Detroit though

  5. Raptors2017champs

Oh we releasing coach contracts now??

  6. kyleb402

Feel bad for Charles Lee on this one.

He seemed so close to finally getting a head job.

  7. UnderstandableXO

i’ve never seen such a big coach contract

  8. Literal_Satan

over under 4.5 years he’ll be with the pistons

  9. sshanbom111

Wow, that’s a lot of money. I hope he can finally help turn the Pistons squad around and give me a playoff win for the first time in 15 years

  10. floatersforalgernon

That’s a lot of million dollars.

  11. __john_cena__

He makes as much or more than everyone on their roster except Bogdanovic

  12. Classics22

Wow did not expect those numbers

    Pistons fans should be ecstatic

  13. Always amazes me that a coach can be fired and a month later get a 6 year contract

  14. x20mike07x

    I’m mixed on this.

But fuck it, it isn’t my money.

This is awesome to hear! I love Monty and I’m super thankful for everything he did here. Hopefully he has the same success in Detroit that he had here.

  16. HotSwordfish23

Does that make him the highest paid coach of all time?

  17. whistleifyoucan

this is so much better than kevin ollie

  18. planetjeff86

Pistons pushing for playoff next season

  19. Living-Career-3989

An owner being willing to spend is literally always a good thing

  20. TheFatmanRises

Coach Monty initial offer: No thanks

Coach Monty after the new offer: Can have shit in Detroit.

  21. I do expect Pistons to make playoffs by 2nd year of Monty’s contract, even better if they can be a playin seed this upcoming season

  22. modifyeight

whoever said they backed the brinks truck up in the last thread wasn’t fuckin lying goddamn

  23. likefiftyninjas

Honestly a good situation and fit for him. Able to mentor and coach these young players without the high pressure “win now” mentality. Expectations are tempered with the roster, and hopefully Weaver can put together a complementary team.

  24. nonufwiendz

Quite a commitment but i suppose for a young team his type of mentorship is really valuable

People clown on this but it’s a great pickup for Detroit.

If Cade stays healthy they will most likely be a force in the East in a few years provided they keep Duren and Ivey and build around those three.

As a Cavs fan it sucks to say but getting Monty really will help them a ton. Really don’t hate the contract amount or length because it’s what you want your FO to do to get to the next level.

Everyone talking about the money as if that matters. He got 3 million or 12 million that doesn’t matter lol
It’s coming from the owner’s pocket who obviously has money and it’s not affecting the cap.

  27. Viciouscauliflower21

$72 million with a young, fun core and minimal expectations? Yea, he won

  28. Objectitan

League is better when Detroit is good, let’s go.

  29. Jokerang

That’s a lot for an NBA head coach, but getting a good HC is worth it. Like Udoka in Houston, Monty won’t have to worry too much about win-now pressure and can just focus on developing the team’s core for a few years.

  30. JayMoney2424

We beat the Kevin Ollie allegations thank the lord.

  31. remote_stars

Fat bag, good young players, no pressure to win, seems like a coach’s dream

  32. CNDOTAFAN

Lol dude fleeced the Pistons by rejecting the first offer. Jokes aside, this is perfect for Pistons players, Monty is a great coach

  33. FutureRaifort

Crazy but easily worth it imo, coaching salaries are just too low in general. He was the best option on the market, and they needed it. Good to see.

  34. YourMajesty90

Might sound stupid but one of the best things about being a head coach in the NBA is getting fired. Just stack guaranteed contract on top of guaranteed contract.

  35. why does this sound like a bargain lol
some nba players make more per year and have less impact on the team

  36. Gratitude15

So he was owed like 30M from phx. Does he still get that? Is this dude getting 100M to coach for the rest of this decade?
