[Stein via /u/iksnet] It’s believed that only Scariolo, from that list, has advanced to the latter stages of the Raptors’ search. But Toronto has successfully let so little about its process leak that it’s not completely clear.

>The Raptors’ search to replace Nurse has included an eclectic variety of candidates that didn’t feature in other coaching searches, from Virtus Bologna and Spanish national team coach Sergio Scariolo to former Canadian national team star and ex-Nets coach Steve Nash to ESPN’s J.J. Redick. Here’s another: I’m told that the Raptors have also registered a level of interest in Barcelona coach Šarūnas Jasikevičius…

> I reported recently that Kings associate head coach Jordi Fernández is a name to watch for the Raptors. Word is Memphis Grizzlies assistant Darko Rajaković also remains in the running. The Scariolo connection naturally stems from his three seasons in Toronto as an assistant to Nurse.

  1. From what list. This post is so unclear. Scar is the only one to advance, but all these other guys are still in running?

once again, the US media-heads proving they don’t have insiders in the Raptors organization.

truthfully, the only time stuff truly leaks out of the Raps head office is when a players agent does it.

i’m actually surprised we haven’t heard Jose Neto’s or Mamadou Gueye’s name being thrown in as a candidate.

Nash and JJ out? Breathing a sigh of relief

This entire time they’ve gone through what seems to be such a long process just to settle on Sergio…

I think Sergio is up there, but that they also want to have serious interviews with Quinn and Adelman after the finals.

I’m in on Nash coming into assist but glad he isn’t taking on head coaching role

At this point, I want Jordi or Quinn. But eh.

I feel bad saying this, but I don’t see how Sergio can be the head coach. His English is good but not great, which can be a challenge especially in a loud stadium talking to American players, they may just tune him out.

If anyone thinks that’s unreasonable, go to YouTube and listen to interviews with him. Wish it didn’t matter but it will. Would make an awesome Asst. Head Coach though.

It’s hard to imagine what coach we need as it’s unclear the direction of the team. Are we losing FVV? OG? Siakam? Gary? Is Poeltl the C of the future? Where does Precious fit in? Lots of roster questions to iron out let alone coaching.

  10. the way Lewenberg said the search could wrap up this weekend makes me think it’s Sergio since his team’s playoff run could end by then

Im gonna just put it out there, I have no clue what makes a good HC, and most likely, none of us here are either. Scariolo is a known coach that they’ve observed and liked. Quinn and Jordi would be new, and just because they come from good franchises doesn’t always mean they translate as good head coaches.

As far as resumes go, Quinn would be a great option Playing experience in the league for multiple teams, coached at college and nba. He has coached with Spo for 10 years or so. But it all depends what the front office wants. This will be the first HC hire outside the org that they will be making

Lmao there’s nothing more disappointing then if we fire Nick to hire the guy who was runner up to him when we initially hired Nick.

    We downgrading in this MF

Šarūnas Jasikevičius was a somewhat popular “what if” kind of candidate in the sub during the post Casey coaching search. I really liked him from what I saw.

  14. I will not form my opinion yet (and share it here) as I haven’t interviewed a single one of those coaches. Will let you know when I do.

It might not amount to anything, but I am surprised by the Sergio reports of him being a finalist. He doesn’t seem like a bad coach at all, but for a team presumably looking to rebuild or retool, an older guy seems like an odd choice.

I’d much prefer a younger coach externally. Quinn, Fernandez and Lee all seem like great options. Darko would be fun, too.

  16. The name Scariolo only makes me think of the Colangelo era 🤮
