In 2016, Jokic said: ” didn’t follow that much NBA, because in Serbia, the games are on at 3 and 4 a.m. When YouTube came out when I was like 15, I watched Magic because of his passing, and Hakeem because of his post moves, and Jordan because he is Jordan.”

Jokic is such a unique, brilliant basketball talent partly because you can see multiple all-time greats have influenced his game. I definitely see some aspects of Bird’s and Dirk’s games as well in Jokic’s play. And yeah, it’s pretty evident that the advent of Youtube and social media has helped promoted basketball and made it more accessible for those overseas.

These euros using technology to advance their basketball prowess.

He copied Magic’s passing. He copied Hakeem’s post moves.

Why didn’t he simply copy Jordan’s 50″ vertical jump? Is he stupid?

  3. Subredditcensorship

I feel like YouTube was out before that. Jokic and I are basically the same age. But maybe they didn’t have access to it yet in Serbia.

  4. Desafiante

If someone said he is a mix of Hakeem + Magic – the blocks, the person wouldn’t be wrong.

  5. PusseySleigher

He watched Jordan hoping he’d become him. Then decided to watch Magic and Hakeem as a backup plan

Denver fans can’t follow their team much because of shitty Comcast. I’m glad Adam Silver finally acknowledged it, maybe if the Nuggets win it all something will change next year

Agree this worked for my in high school. I watched a lot of prime KG & adopted my game to be similar to his. Had low confidence & he gave me that boost

Man I remember being 12 just watching Hakeem clips and practicing that shit in the shitty parking lot next to the apartments. Definitely the one all time great I think eveybody respects

Same, but I’m to lazy to put in the work. And I don’t have the talent. And the heights. And I’m not from Serbia.

  10. carvemynuts

Prolly watched Jordan highlights just to see how it feels like dominating everyone.

  11. GayForJamie

Now, we watch Jokic because he’s Jokic 🤗

  12. HippoSpa

He’s a mix of Magic (court vision, passing) and Bird (shooting, basketball IQ, athleticism).

    A savant.

  13. mylowerbackhurts

He based his idea on how the game is played based on highlight videos. No wonder he’s so efficient

  14. DrForskin

He’s just a fanboy like us.. which means there’s a chance we could be NBA basketball superstars when we grow up!

Why does the picture look like a renaissance painting

Basketball is huge in Serbia and has been for a hundred years (1923). I bet most of his basketball idols are people we’ve never heard of. Jokic is unique, so to say that he’s a combination of this player and that player doesn’t seem right to me because we’ve never seen anyone like him.

5 year old me telling my parents how I’m going to become a superstar in the NBA by studying LeBron and Tim Duncan in the NBA Finals

  18. I can’t wait for FIBA 2023. I hope the European stars play. It’s going to be so fun to watch.

This is proof of the positives of the Information Era

  20. He’s a mix of Arvydas Sabonis, Vlade Divac, Magic, Larry Bird, Z-Bo, a little Hakeem and Dirk.

I don’t really see Shaq or MJ in his game lol

  21. Same buddy. Have to wake up at 3.30 to catch the current finals.

  22. Chris3894

I’m calling bullshit on this. I watched all of those guys on YouTube too but somehow I ended up in IT instead of becoming a 2 time MVP.

  23. ThaPhantom07

Jokic is special man. Glad I get to see the greatness and appreciate it in real time instead of looking back and wondering why I was such a hater. Sucks that we lost to him but if you’re going to have to lose then lose to a future all time great.

  24. PorkinsHeldIt

I was trying to figure out if Magic died for a minute there

  25. SirGuerbiz

Yeah I feel that. Finals are at 2-2:30 here were I am in Europe…rough on my sleeping schedule.

  26. Sternjunk

I’m sure no other players have ever studied and tried to be like magic hakeem or Jordan lmao

  27. NoBigDill88

Jokic reminds me of some of the people I grew up playing basketball with, that had insane talent, but didn’t really care to it and just lived a normal life, but Jokic actually continued to play until he got into the NBA.

  28. He has impeccable taste — three players who definitely would be in the all-time starting five.

  29. Lapponias

    >I definitely see some aspects of Bird’s and Dirk’s games as well in Jokic’s play.

    Kendrick Perkins, is that you?

  30. TwitchTVBeaglejack

Amazing that these miracle grow videos made him 7 feet tall too. Praise Stern

  31. nooblevelum

Jokic is the one. He is the one. If he wins a championship I say he will surpass Giannis. Shooting is huge and is what puts me ahead of him

  32. dan_kb24

Idk why but I thought he thought Magic died
