  1. Excerpt below:

For NBA commissioner Adam Silver, the Ja Morant case is about gun safety, and not a legal or political matter.

ā€œI feel across the board, regardless of what people’s individual views are on gun rights, everyone feels firearms should be handled in a safe way, and waving them around or displaying them in a certain context is not consistent with gun safety and is not the proper message that an NBA player, particularly one at Ja’s level, should be sending to the tens of millions of followers he has,ā€ Silver said Friday at an NBA Cares event at a local Boys and Girls Club in Denver — one day after Silver said that Morant’s potential punishment would be announced soon after the finals.

ā€œThis is not commenting on any state’s laws,ā€ Silver said. ā€œThis is, to me, an issue of gun safety.ā€

Man is just out here teasing the release. Like promos for a season finale.

In all honesty, his earlier comments sounded really bad and it was probably best he did clarify that the punishment is not a legal issue.

  3. Relevant-Cut5004

Ja morant has been caught with guns on ig live more than he won playoffs series

  4. ButterPastaXtraSalt

If the dude never sees an nba floor again then I’d be okay with that

  5. Sad_Arrival8002

How was this dude allowed to play after his vehicle had a red dot pointed at an NBA employee? IIRC, he wasn’t even suspended following that incident. It’s a terrible look for the league

  6. shellfish87

I’m not convinced silver doesn’t want this to be a big story

  7. orphicwitch

it feels like a lot of people are more excited about the nba announcing ja’s punishment than the actual finals

  8. PhatYeeter

Cant have his players shooting themselves in the leg in the middle of the club

  9. lala_b11

Adam Silver gonna make Ja Morant go on a hunting trip with former Vice President Dick Cheney

  10. Common-Wedding-7264

I do think this is the biggest concern too. If he’s out flashing guns like this it increases the chances that they’re gonna be used and that someone’s going to shoot at him

  11. HariPotter

Silver figured out a way to avoid the political landmines of the suspension. Kinda genius.

Framing it as gun safety takes away the argument about oh politicians show off guns too and aren’t suspended. And additionally, it takes out the JJ Redick argument what laws were violated? The suspension is about being unsafe and reckless with guns and portraying a dangerous example for youths.

All to say this is probably a very long suspension for Ja.

  12. jumboponcho

Can’t blame media when shit like this gets so much engagement. They’re only gonna show what the people say they wanna see

  13. Stillintherapy

The laser thing is the scariest event. I really hope it wasn’t a laser attached to a gun.

  14. Don’t go soft Silver. Let’s hope Morant listens. Don’t want to see a 23 year old throw his career away.

  15. immunityfromyou

If they think the people Ja associates with can potentially be a danger to people within the NBA and fans this guy is going to be permanently removed.

  16. SuqonMuhdeek

somebody bout to give a shot of silver to the ja

  17. a97jones

Draymond Green literally assaulted someone and knocked his head off – no suspension

Ja Morant – no assault – no crime – suspension

    foh….

  18. IRanOutOf_Names

He had the common sense both times to have his finger away from the trigger (and presumably the safety on), but waving it around like that is still dangerous. The second video has him wave it around his head right next to his ear and I swear the angle at one point puts the barrel into his head. You don’t treat guns that way, even if the thing is unloaded and on safety, you always act like it’s ready to fire and can discharge at any time when jolted too hard.

  19. trubiskywetrust

This is an issue of Ja Morant making Adam Silver look like an asshole for letting him off easy. Nothing more. And for that, Morant will get a hefty suspension.

  20. TreeBearOne

..feels like the whole ‘gun safety’ aspect is an excuse the nba has just come up with to counter the ‘but its legal!’ arguement.

  21. MayoBenz

I don’t understand why he said he didn’t want it to take away coverage from the finals, when he’s the one that brought it up? Why is he teasing it like some movie rollout , DURING the finals

  22. bigpimpin8558

Full year suspension is highly arguable.

  23. He keeps teasing about this despite not wanting to distract from the finals. I think he is pissed at Ja and Silver is going to drag him through the mud this time.

  24. ZiOnIsNeXtLeBrOn

I mean if you use guns like a toy and work for a multibillion dollar company. And there are rules that say you can’t mess around with guns. I would say safety is as important than anything.

  25. Derrickmb

Let’s be real it’s also about drugs. And Silver can’t say that out loud

  26. GadgetGod1906

I am just interested to know what other information that got on Ja at this point.

  27. Tyreek09

Definitely more about image than safety but ok

  28. IvanSaenko1990

Silver and nba are overstepping their boundaries, Ja is their employee, but not their slave.

  29. dankbeerdude

Boring ass Finals so Silver trying to add some spice

  30. blackmetronome

In the video that leaked, you can see Morant putting the gun to his temple.

  31. unlmtdLoL

It would be hilarious if the final reveal is just that Ja had his gun off safety and he needs to make sure that next time when he’s waving his gun around the safety is on.

  32. BehinddTint

Lol so nba players can’t have guns? What crime has Ja committed? Lol shit funny af

  33. girlscoutcookies05

    REMINDER:

Carmelo Anthony on his 15-game suspension in the 2006-07 season and David Stern:

ā€œI go speak to him and say, ā€˜Why’d you do me like that?’. [Stern said,] ā€˜ā€¦Do you want to be in the streets, or do you want to be in the NBA? You’re f-—g with a corporation now… I know who you with. I know where you live at. I know when you close your eyes…’

  34. More like NBA doesn’t want players with the image of a gun-waving gangster.

  35. NotoriousSIG_

Is there any chance that the suspension won’t be as severe as what everyone else is thinking it’ll be? Like seriously what would be considered a severe suspension in this situation

  36. Imagine being in Ja’s position in life and doing all this. What an idiot.

  37. A_Dollar-a-Day

OJ Mayo and Tyreke Evans both got suspended indefinitely from Silver for drug use. If this dude gets found out to have pointed an actual gun at the Pacers team bus on top of everything else that we know publicly, well buddy get ready for Guangdong
