This is why I like Sergio, he’s been coaching the Spanish national team with huge success for over a decade. The tournament is different from an 82 game season, but I think it shows he’s got the “continuity and consistency” these great coaches have. Guys like Jordi have great potential to be coaches but have no resume like Scariolo.

I’m bought in on this guy, it’s out of the box and super interesting.

This also requires a coach that adapts to their circumstances over the long run, even if the roster isnt what they wanted in a particular season.

Draft generational big man in 2nd round

  4. The heat have one of the most clutch playoff performers in recent history, a fantastic system of unearthing talent, coupled with, yes NBA best (along with the Spurs) development, and arguably a top 2 coach in NBA history. Is Spo a big part of their success? Absolutely, but with every single NBA team, you get a good starting point with the roster, and the coach takes it from there.

The Nuggs? Yeah draft arguably one of the greatest big men in the history of the entire NBA, and have 2-3 more lotto picks filling out your roster, and tada you have a contender. Malone is not an acquire at all costs top tier head coach, he is good no doubt, but not on Spos level.

    > Instead, hire a coach for the franchise you want to be over time. This really is a marriage. The benefits of having someone in the role for an extended period are profound.

I agree with this wholeheartedly, and it seemed like that’s what we were doing. Except we missed out on step one : ***have a decent roster***.

Maybe Nurse wasn’t the right coach, and maybe his coaching staff’s development skills were not good enough. But we all know he was a good coach, and this roster is the core of the teams problems.

Before we focus too much on finding that “perfect” coach, maybe we stop putting bubble gum on all these holes in the boat.
