I think we should definitely sign AD past Lebron. The team post trade without LeBron was playing great ball. We can still be a competitive team and top defense.
They will extend him. LeBron leaving+new media rights deal kicking in will create a ton of cap space for the Lakers.
I don’t see how we would just want him gone lol trading AD is dumb, but at least we’d get assets. The Lakers aren’t going to just want him gone. AD will be one of our selling points for a free agent.
I’m confused. Lakers aren’t interested in a long year extension for him this summer but the primary thing is to sign him?
Yeees keep AD long term please. I get his injury concerns but I don’t wanna live a franchise with no star player. He is still worth building around.
But from AD’s perspective it makes no sense unless he’s really worried about getting a major injury. He can make far more by renegotiating a new contract. Plus he can leverage the lakers to construct a better team or he walks.

AD maybe isn’t a megastar, but he’s a great player and it will be easier to attract talent with a star on our roster vs starting from scratch again. Do we want a redo of 2016-2018? I say no.
AD trade yielded a championship.
He’s to be thanked and celebrated for that.
However, there is no need to extend him, move on.
If he was worth it, it would already be done.
Obviously extend him if we can and if he wants to. You don’t let an asset leave for nothing.
AD carried this team when LeBron was out after the trade deadline, he played through significant foot injuries. He was the best defensive player in the playoffs and he is the main reason behind this years post season success.
Lock him the fuck up.
In addition, he needs help on defensive side to conserve his energy for offensive side. If we can manage to upgrade D’Lo with a guard who can get AD more involved, we can maximize AD on both fronts.

I am slightly concerned with how AD is aging. He is in his prime right now but I am unsure if he will still be as good at age 34-36. I do think we should keep him at all costs though.

While I don’t have a lot of faith in him aging well, you still gotta hold on to him as an asset. Having that contract on the books alone has a considerable amount of value.
We should offer AD a max as soon as we can. Make it clear we want him here for his career.
I certainly think you extend Davis. I do think these will be his last really good years. Even when Lebron is gone, him being here will make it attractive for guards to come here and play with him.
I do think he has 2 more runs at being a key player in a title run.
Lakers have some decision making to do coming up with AD. He has an ETO next summer if he doesn’t sign an extension. He could sign next summer on a larger deal or perhaps he wants to try a new place.
Nonetheless, Lakers will have cap space for Jaylen Brown next summer and will likely want to keep cap space for 2026 for Jayson Tatum.
I know Windhorst doesn’t know shit but who the f is Mcmenin? Doubt anyone knows what the Lal office is planning but a long term extension should definitely be on the table for AD. He keeps us in championship contention? Why? His defense. His offense sucks sure but his defense is elite that it can carry us to the Finals.
