Hawks Make Dejounte Murray Available Trade?

The team is believed to be looking for a home for John Collins, but some whispers abound that Dejounte Murray could be had in the right deal. Murray is due $18.2 million this season but may not be open to an extension limited to a $25.4 million starting salary. Unless Atlanta can shed significant salary elsewhere, they may not be able to afford Murray at his current price, let alone on a new deal in his likely asking range above $30 million.

  1. I would hate for this to happen to Dejounte. Trae wants to play with him. He just praised DJ in the first episode of his podcast. I don't think the Hawks will give up on him so soon.

  2. I hate to lose DJ, but I am not surprised. DJ x Trae did not work out as everyone expected, and if DJ opts out, we lose him for nothing. They both need ball in their hand. With the new CBA rule, basically you can have 2 star players at max contract. Maybe 3 if you give up on having decent depth team. Hawks will have some hard decisions to make to even keep its current rosters. (JC, Bogi, Hunter, Bey, OO) If we pursue DJ, 2 or 3 of these players will need to be dealt, which will kill our depth. I would rather have the 2nd star player to be F or C to give more play options. This will be the season for Tony to put money where his mouth is, or they will have to go into team restructuring. I’m pretty sure the Hawks fans and investors are sick and tired of mediocrity and disappointments. Hope they make big moves to get us to the top.
