  1. This one comes down to cost. If we can acquire without giving up all the assets, we can still make a second move

For 23 sure. I’m assuming we’re looking at center late in the draft anyway. He’s 24 and has shown flashes in the past. I’m not going to judge him off one post season run. I highly doubt a trade for Ayton involves 3. The Suns will be selling low.

  3. all4monty

People need to consider why these leaks happen and it is not because Portland is offering a haul for Ayton and getting rebuked

  4. GaviFromThePod

23 and Ant for Ayton, draft Scoot. Profit.

  5. SonofNamek

Don’t see the controversy. If Dame is traded, the Blazers are NOT going to get an equivalent in return, especially with Dame lowering the trade value and especially with Dame stating his desire to compete.

The guy is a fourth option with good defense. In which case, he’s behind Sharpe, the #3, and Ant. That’s a solid four player core to rebuild around for the next few years.

Plus, if the Blazers get Scoot and use the 23+Ant for some other prospect like OG or for a fellow draftee like Walker or Ausar, I’d consider the Blazers to have strong defensive potential going forward.

  6. I don’t love him. But his value is incredibly low right now. He’s still better then nurkic. His contract is gross tho. He’s got a bad attitude, but the suns situation was kinda mess, so maybe we can fix that? (Wishful thinking, I know). He’s shown incredible flashes of being an elite talent. So if we can get can get him for super cheap then I guess the overall feeling is eh. But Cronin needs to still get a small forward(please be bridges)

I hope it is real. Aytons value is at its lowest. A young, healthy, athletic center who was the key piece (3rd option) on a team 2 wins away from the title 2 years ago. He’s done it before and is literally only 24 years old. When the suns got absolutely decimated by the Mavericks In game 7 a couple years ago, Ayton seemed to take the brunt of the blame. That whole summer Monty Williams never even reached out to Ayton (I still think that was a wild coaching move).

Then they had contract issues and Aytons name was dragged through the mud. He is a prime candidate to do better once moving to another team. Buy low on the guy. Obviously if the suns want too much say no. But I’d totally go for him if the price was right, the upside is obvious and he’s available.

  8. spittafan

Good player but terrible fit with Grant. We need a center who rebounds well or we will get destroyed there. Also his contract size necessitates sending more value than he’s worth

  9. Is his skill set that much better then Nurk’s to justify the $18m more you have to pay him? Offensively he is one dimensional. He has a decent 12ft jumper. And a somewhat of a post game. He isn’t that great of a finisher. He also isn’t a great passer. He is a 1 level scorer. Defensively he isn’t a rim protecter. He isn’t a rim disrupter. He can switch more because he is agile. Lastly he lacks motivation. We know Nurk’s motivation. But Ayton is worse. So is a trade for him really worth it?

Anyone who thinks that Ayton is not a massive upgrade from Nurk is insane. He is absolutely a top 10 center when is is engaged, and I trust Dame to get him right. Some folks man

  11. dont_care-

Ayton is just not that guy. I’d pass tbh

  12. crab90000

I’m working on another terrible trade idea for the sub, but I forget the rules on trading a TO player.

  13. Emergency_Pepper_178

Ayton can actually score consistently and efficiently. He stretches the floor a little more with his middie. He has better availability and health and can play more minutes. He also commits fewer fouls.

Nurk has his strengths, but he is washed after injuries and weight gain. He will never be the player he once was. This is a clear upgrade that should be pursued if we don’t have to give up too much. We are not gonna land a better center, and this is a great opportunity to buy low on a guy who has a higher ceiling.

  14. loganjags11

probably told the suns gm that we’ll leave nurk, little, and the 23 pick on the table in case they don’t get any better offers for him

  15. Nerdkill789

Has Ayton ever been better than Nurk? All advanced metrics point to Nurk being more impactful than Ayton, why are we going after a downgrade on a more expensive contract?

  16. I just don’t buy the notion that a change of scenery will turn him into an all star. He could improve but the team’s emphasis to make it deep into the post season puts a lot of pressure on him to be very good immediately. Maybe Dame digs something up in him but I think if he hasn’t shown the fire and determination to do so yet then it’s probably not going to happen. And it’s especially risky if they’re putting all their trade chips on that kind of a risk/reward proposition.

I read the article. The quote is being framed as the Blazers are actively showing interest in Ayton but what he said was Phoenix are looking at options for Point Guard and mentioned that though Portland has valued Ayton in the past they wouldn’t have enough for Dame.

  18. ohmygodbeats7

Trade Dame over moves like this please.

  19. To me, he’s only a viable target if we’re blowing it up.

  20. UniqueSecurity2624

If it could just be simons and a 2nd round I’m in. we could still pursue Mikal or someone else. Just gotta hope grant takes some money under the table!

  21. MR___SLAVE

    This should be the plan:

    3 to Orlando

11, 23, Nurkic and Little to Phoenix

    Ayton and 6 to Portland

    Draft Jarace Walker at 6

  22. Wild-Exchange6257

He would be a terrific pick and roll pairing with both Dame and Ant.

  23. FrightenedMussolini

god no, unless its for peanuts or for some shitty depth do not budge. ayton is a certified clown

  24. Wild-Exchange6257

    Nurkic × Keon + Knox+ Little
    For
    Ayton

It works and helps both teams.

The Suns save some, pivot to a center whose a better fit for them and add depth.
Pheonix is going to need a playmaking upgrade with Paul gone, so improving their playmaking with both Nurkic and Watford could be a great move for them.

    Then trade Ant+23+and a second
    For
    Keldon Johnson.

Jabari Walker + 3 future 2nd round picks
    For
    Isiah Stewart

    And
    PG Dame/Scoot/Mayes
    SG Sharpe/Matisse/Mayes
    SFKeldon/Reddish/Matisse
    PF Grant//Stewart/Reddish
    C Ayton/Stewart/Eubanks

I would look to get a stretch 4/5 with the MLE.
I don’t know if we could get him, but Jaylen Smith would be perfect it would need to be a trade, so maybe offer the Stewart package to IND instead and sign Paul Reed 🤷‍♂️ (maybe go that way instead of Stewart).

I would be overjoyed with that off-season.
I think that team has a legit “punchers chance” at making something happen with a bright future. Eating cake and keeping it too.

  25. t_toda_DOTA

Ayton, OG to Portland; 3rd and Ant to Toronto; Van Fleet, Nurk, Little to Phoenix. Use this as baseline and all wins.

  26. TeamRebel208

Highest I am going for Ayton is Nurk + Little + Reddish(sign and trade) + 23. Ayton ain’t worth Ant or the 3rd pick imo.
