There are rumors floating around that Dejounte Murray might be available in the right deal, per @EricPincus pic.twitter.com/3IAcWxfILr

With reports coming out that the Hawks are considering trading Dejounte Murray, the Nets immediately came to my mind as a destination. With point guard a position the Nets must assess ahead of next season, what could be the merit of a player such as Murray?
Last season, Murray averaged 20.5/5.3/6.1/1.5/.3 while starting 74 games, that is down from his all-star campaign with SA in 2021-22, despite playing in six more games, though that could be due to him no longer being the undisputed leader on offense. That stat line is still better than Dinwiddie for us last year in everywhere but assists. So Murray has proven himself a good, sometimes great player who has potential to fit well in the Nets system.
As mentioned, Murray is a former all-star, as well as leading the league in steals for the 2021-22 season (2.0 per game), despite that, his price doesn’t seem too high, with SA trading him, alongside Jock Landale, to the Hawks in the 2022 offseason for Danilo Gallinari, first round picks in 2025 and 2027, and a swap of first round picks in 2026. Atlanta will certainly want to get some of that draft capital back, and the Nets have both the players and draft picks necessary to make a deal happen.
Murray is the same age as Mikal Bridges at 26, and at 6’5, would contribute to the Nets having one of the taller lineups in the league.
Overall, I think Dejounte Murray would certainly improve the Nets, and I honestly prefer him on the Nets to Damian Lillard, just due to that it would cost much less to get him.

For the right trade, I think so.
Sure, but he’d probably cost what it cost atl to get him…. 3 frp and 1 swap
Yes, Nets should do their due diligence and look into every possibility. Doesn’t hurt to ask.
What’s concerning to me about Murray is that he’s a mediocre 3 point shooter for his position – 34.4% at 5 attempts per game. There’s always the possibility that he improves, but at this point in his career it’s hard to bank on that. On the flip side, he’s far less of a defensive liability than other star point guards. In theory, anyways.
Something else to consider is that he’s due for a new contract next year. To me, he’s in that category of fringe star player who will probably be asking for a max. Are the Nets willing to do so?
Love this idea:
fits the timeline
plays both sides of the ball really well
less assets to acquire than dame
with a healthy simmons we could be the best defensive team in the league
Absolutely if we actually wanna try and compete.
I don’t want the Nets trading for anyone unless we are paying .50cents on the dollar
