Welcome back. Been a few days, still haven’t managed to turn Trevor Keels into a trade for Giannis but we’re trying. Some updates and a bit of clarification as to why the subreddit has still been down.
As a Mod team, we’ve been watching how the results of the Reddit Blackout have been going and looking to see what type of effect it is having on the the site. For all updates you can go to /r/Save3rdPartyApps to keep up to date. We believe that given more time, the blackout is making a dent and advertisers are already wary of advertising on Reddit going forward thanks to this blackout as reported by AdWeek here: [https://www.adweek.com/social-marketing/ripples-through-reddit-as-advertisers-weather-moderators-strike/](https://www.adweek.com/social-marketing/ripples-through-reddit-as-advertisers-weather-moderators-strike/)
I know that the initial ask was for 2 days, but I think reevaluating how this all has gone we can have a bigger impact keeping the subreddit offline for the time being with the rest of Reddit (as of writing this there are still about 56% of the site’s subreddits offline). As has been presented by the CEO of Reddit, /u/spez, they believe that this is a major reddit blow up. But that like all Reddit blow ups it will pass over and be forgotten soon after. As the mod team, we believe that keeping the community blacked out goes against that and makes it just a little bit harder. But we don’t want to just keep everybody in the dark (ironic). So a new poll for the community.
The options below are to return online, the blackout until the end of the month and reevaluate, or to black out indefinitely. Feel free to give us more feedback as well, or ask for clarification on what is going on if you are still confused.
You **will not** be approved to join the community, and you were not kicked out of the community. Please stop asking in modmail to the people who are, all of the information you need is on /r/Save3rdPartyApps and /r/ModCoord. If you are upset about the blackout, please bring all complaints to /u/Reddit and /u/spez.

Tbh I do think the protests are gonna ultimately amount to nothing and replacement subs are gonna repopulate most of the popular ones. That being said, it’s the off-season anyways and there’s enough places to talk about Knicks basketball that aren’t on Reddit, so this is the most convenient time for users for you guys to do the blackout, but I also think it’s not really gonna matter because the subreddit activity will be at its lowest in the off-season here barring any crazy trades.
Fuck the blackout and the Heat and the Celtics
Blackout is dumb
Stop crying
All the big sub mods will be replaced with corporate friendly accounts eventually. One thing Reddit is yet to monetize is the subreddits themselves, and this protest thing is essentially giving them carte Blanche to start selling them to advertising firms

This Blackout business is silly, ineffective, and ultimately pointless. There’s been 0 effect on Reddit’s revenue from what I have read. A vast majority of users keep using it anyway, and just go to other subs instead.
I appreciate the spirit of it, but this is never stopping the API change. Exceptions are being made for some 3rd party apps for accessibility.
And also, many subs have already come back. Most that did the Blackout are doing polls like this, and from the subs I’ve seen, no one really cares about the Blackout. Sorry to be reductive, but this is a losing battle, and even if it wasn’t, the majority of voters in the poll want the Blackout to stop. So cheers, but no cigar.
I do not care about the blackout. Mild inconvenience at best
Can’t make heads or tails of this blackout. But that’s not the first thing I’ve come across that I can’t make heads or tails of.
Do you, Hokage. Black it out, baby!
Blackout won’t change anything. It’s pointless.
Please bring this sub back online, and we thank you for holding a poll and listening to the people.
I commented [this](https://i.imgur.com/jCTovqD.jpg) and 15 mins later the sub is opened. You’re welcome everyone.
I honestly didn’t even know these 3rd party apps existed. I’ve been using the official one for years. 🤷♂️

I may be the minority here, but I do not know what the blackout is going to do in general. Maybe if you boycotted/deleted the official reddit app that would make some waves, but I am just a guy that comes on here through my computer 99% of the time, so I do not have any bias towards a certain app as I barely ever use them.
I never do polls because Reddit forces you off Apollo onto their site in order to vote. But I’m doing it this time, fuck it and fuck u/spez
Edit: disappointed with the current result and the general lack of understanding/support of the blackout across many subs
I’d rather y’all bring it back, but considering we don’t even have a draft pick, it’d be pretty easy to keep it closed until Summer League.
Nothin but shit posts and awful trade proposals this time of year anyway
I pick option D. Coordinate a day 1 day per week with the other big subs or just basketball subs and go offline that day. So maybe it’s every Thursday until things improve most of reddit just shuts down? Keep doing that week after week and the users will be less inconvenienced while reddit still is inconvenienced.
Indefinite blackout is the way to go. Everyone giving up on making a small sacrifice for the greater good because they assume it to be for nothing is a big part of the problem.
I’m down to blackout till the end of June and re-evaluate but I have a fear that Reddit will just remove all the mods of the private subs and replace them with corporate assholes.
Granted I don’t think our sub generates enough traffic for it to matter, especially during the off season.
I’m a 3rd party app user and already made my peace with losing Apollo but I absolutely do not want to deal with the shit ton of spam and bots we’ll be dealing with once these API changes go into effect.
The NBA off-season is about to start and the draft is next week. Do what ya want ya are the mods. But stay down long enough, and you can risk becoming irrelevant.
I voted “black out until the end of June,” which I know sucks, but the lack of traffic surrounding the draft could be important.
