If you truly believe in the team, a (what would be) late future first for a piece that helps you where you have weaknesses, and should upgrade the team for a playoff run isn’t an overpay. Even the fact he’s an FA, the Raptors (a team well over the cap) would retain his bird rights to re-sign him.
Spurs didn’t even fleece us for Poeltl, it was more just the timing and the fact we were a middling team with no real direction why the trade was bad.
