Damian Lillard being traded to the Brooklyn Nets just became a lot harder

With the Bradley Beal to the Suns trade in the books for Phoenix and Washington, the path for Damian Lillard to join the Nets looks a little more complicated. For starters, word has come out that Lillard prefers to stay in Portland as his primary choice. So that could be the path.

But if he were to leave then a deal with Miami is looking all that much more probable for a number of different reasons. The Locked on Nets guys take a look at the situation where Lillard is concerned and the factors to weigh.

They also take another round-up on the draft and see where the odds are sitting when it comes to the Nets’ two picks.

  1. Good evening everyone we are less then three days from the draft.

Brooklyn is considering moving up the draft and packaging the 21st and 22nd picks with a possible wing in Dorian Finney Smith or Royce o Neale… After the Suns trade to get Beal Brooklyn might be more daring in getting a blue chip prospect to give serious minutes to and make a core member of their future….

  2. As far as the Damian Lillard news goes Miami will try to offload Tyler Herro one of Kyle Lowry or Duncan Robinson and three to four first round draft picks…

Brooklyn could stand pat and do nothing and let the Heat take that gamble. But Brooklyn has the better package on paper so we will get a clearer indication of where this will all go after the Draft….

  3. One player who could be on Brooklyn radar is Zach Lavine.

The Bulls are testing his trade value and have come up with a criteria of : A young skilled player, draft compensation, and matching salary.

Brooklyn has the expiring veteran contracts, a prospect in Cam Thomas and some first round picks to acquire Lavine.

While people can argue that Lavine knee troubles has hurt his value with his max contract. But when hes been healthy Zach has been a fierce bucket scorer.

Brooklyn has the defensive core in Mikal Bridges Cam Johnson and Nic Claxton. Adding a scorer in Zach Lavine could make Brooklyn a very interesting squad. Plus Brooklyn could bring back Andre Drummond in a potential package and he would become a good backup center behind Claxton and help with the rebounding….

Again Brooklyn doesn't have to go this route but Zach Lavine falls under Brooklyn plan B options….

  4. Should Brooklyn consider trading Ben Simmons to the Washington Wizards to get Porzingas or Kuzma? Both are on expiring contracts and would come off the books next year. Plus Brooklyn getting off of Ben Simmons contract for the last two years could help them open up future cap space….

However if Ben Simmons has a healthy productive season then it only bodes well for Brooklyn future….

  5. I don't know if the current rooster can generate ticket sales. They need to get someone.

  6. I don’t want them to think about trading for Lillard until they’re able to get some more help. Lillard and Mikal isn’t enough. Siakam or Jerami Grant would be enough. But a more realistic option would be Lopez (who I don’t think we’ll get), slide Claxton to start at the 4, and a healthy season from Ben.
But since I’m not sure how much of that can happen.. no Dame

  7. Dame has never discussed wanting to come to Brooklyn prier to this season. He only mentioned them as leverage to get what he want in Portland; help to make them a champion. The Nets have never seriously considered acquiring Dame prier to this season. Rumors concerning that surfaced only when Dame made comments that Brooklyn or Miami would be desirable franchises to play for because certain players on each team was his "dawg." It's a dead subject. Time to move on to other fertile topics.

  8. A realistic option is trading Ben Simmons, Cam Thomas and future picks for Dejoutay Murray and John Collins
