It’s also not clear whether they will be able to meet the financial demands of center Jakob PoeltI in free agency, who prefers not to be in a rebuilding situation next season, sources told ESPN.

  1. Lmaoo I swear

If we actually don’t re-sign Poeltl, what a big fat massive L for us. RIP that frp

  2. UjiriWatcher

And this is why the Poeltl trade was terrible. Traded a FRP, Boxed yourself in for a play-in and can’t rebuild. Set the team back years. We got role players preventing the team from rebuilding.

  3. 99ahmadali786

Out of the 3 FAs I would’ve loved to have kept him the most. If Poeltl really plans on leaving Masai and Bobby gotta put themselves in timeout.

  4. pakattack91

I think Poeltl will be our easiest FA to keep.

  5. KinkyTOGuy91

If Poetl and FVV walk I could legit see Masai leaving. Dudes ego wouldn’t be able to stomach such an obvious massive failure.

  6. hoennking502

    Wtf is masai doing?

I’m just saying, as soon masai left nuggets, they built a sustainable championship contender

Thank you kawhi, he really deserves a statue because we’re not touching finals in a long time after 2019

  7. OguguasVeryOwn

Meaning that if we trade Pascal for youth, Jakob is gonna dip. Kind of predictable tbh.

  8. praxeologue

Y’all really think they didn’t think that far ahead when they signed Jak?

Redditors never cease to amaze me

  9. thenewoldschool55

If Yak doesn’t sign, this will be the biggest L of Masai’s career. Bigger than DeMarre, bigger than Bruno…

  10. saltface14

There aren’t any contenders who have the cap space to sign him outright, this is just posturing

  11. chrisPjelly

Should’ve figured. Probably why they aren’t going to blow it up, yet. If they trade his BFF Pascal, then that’s going to sour him on returning. What an incredibly baffling decision to put themselves into that predicament.

  12. GuessableSevens

I’m honestly fine with moving on from him. He’s a great regular season Center but he’s not a guy who can close in the playoffs because of his FT issues. We already sank a FRP, no sense in keeping him for the sake of it. It was a bad trade then, it’ll be worse if we overpay for Poeltl.

I’d rather we throw Koloko into the fire and potentially draft Lively if Bufkin/Wallace/Dick are off the board.

  13. they better sign him. trade him mid season if you have too but losing a draft pick for nothing will hurt like a bitch.

  14. birdmanpresents

This thread is a perfect overreaction based on unconfirmed and unamed sources.

  15. 1DapperRaptor

Sign him and move him to the Mavericks

  16. TJStrawberry

I mean if we trade siakam I don’t think poeltl re-signs with us.

  17. yt1nifnI

The market for him is not going to be what he expects. If he wants to go to a team that has playoff aspirations there’s not many of them that have a need for a center nor have the cap space to sign him.

  18. Don’t think he walks. They’ll probably hold on to their assets (probably FVV and Jak) and if it doesn’t improve midseason a fire sale has to happen. There’s no reason to keep a team who can’t keep up with a wide open east.

  19. GlueGuy00

Still feels like they’re running it back. FVV being rumored to get 30M-ish annually for 3 years made him more affordable for the team IMO.

Hot take: they’ll re-sign Poeltl/FVV and drafts Gradey to replace GTJ in his role.

  20. suncorsux

This trade was such a dumb trade… Everybody could see it at the time.

  21. Cheechers23

Could see this being why a Pascal trade doesn’t happen. Raps are gonna look at it like if we trade Pascal, we’re also gonna lose Poeltl, so the value needs to be enough to make up for both, which isn’t gonna happen.

Although no non-rebuilding team has the cap space to sign Poeltl so it would probably be a S&T

  22. jjkiller26

I’m skeptical if he can get 20 mill a year while also signing for a contender. Who can actually afford him without it being a sign n trade?

  23. Kevita24

If they lose Jakob and our 2024 first-round pick, that’s by far the biggest offseason fumble by Masai and Bobby, BUT if they lose Jakob + FVV + GTJ + the 2024 first-round pick then fans should be calling for Masai and Bobby’s heads, especially since they could have moved both FVV and GTJ before the deadline and at least ended up with some picks and players

If that happens then trading Siakam + OG and a full blow re-build seems inevitable…Masai and Bobby have essentially backed themselves into a corner, more than half their starters are on the verge of walking, and there’s not a damn thing they can do about it other than overpay all three of them to stay and hope to god that “running it back” works…

I hate to say it but it feels like Masai got a little to cock after winning the title and pulling off that Kawhi trade, he started to like the smell of his own farts and now he’s in a real mess….

  24. Smart-Ad75

Honestly if Poeltl leaves Masai and Bobby need to be shown the door. Enough is enough…

  25. NorthernSnowMexican

    I don’t think I trust Masai anymore…

  26. RedRocket13

Who could have seen this coming except literally every person outside the FO?

  27. The front office has taken Canadian generosity to a new level by giving away a first round pick essentially for free. Honestly though, if Poeltl walks the front office needs to at least acknowledge the fact that they have been doing a poor job running the team the last couple of years. But I expect that instead we’ll get some cryptic statement from Masai about how he needed to evaluate the team with a center and that he likes the pieces we have or something stupid.

  28. Not an issue since FO doesnt believe in a full rebuild.

What will happen is we re-sign everybody and kick the can down the road to the trade deadline

  29. Iliketothrowaway2456

If we gave potentially gave up a lottery first for 20 games of Poeltl. So help me Jebus.

If Masai isn’t fired into the sun for this, this might be a second slap in the face that his boys club is a catastrophic failure and he’ll actually deal out OG and maybe Siakam

  30. -vanking023-

    wasn’t there a “gentlemen’s agreement”? L O L

  31. Canuckistans

Oh jesus christ this franchise is in a bad place

  32. Graiello

This sub is hilarious. I’m an emotional fan but this slander against the FO before anything concrete has transpired is ridiculous. Let things shake out and wait to panic till mid season at least. Sure, Masai and Bobby might have made some mistakes or gambles that haven’t paid off but guessing they know more than all of us combined so let’s wait and see where we land. Y’all act like this team is comprised of trash. Last season was hard to watch but there was a myriad of contributing factors so who knows what will happen now that we have a proper C and a new coaching philosophy. I’m not suggesting run it back is the answer but ffs let’s stop overreacting to every leak.

  33. TheMannX

Good Lord everyone here is really losing it.

WHY do people here keep hammering on about blowing it all up?!?! It’s almost like you guy think that going young is a guaranteed success – it isn’t, and if you need proof, go ask Orlando or Houston.

If you’re a Raptors fan going way back, ask yourself this: Ten years ago, did ANYONE in the NBA take the Raptors seriously? Nope. We’d drafted stars three times up to that point and all three had walked. We wasted picks all over the place, players if they got traded to Toronto were immediately on the horn to their agents yelling “get me outta here.” The big market is the ONLY reason we hadn’t been written off and the team moved to the states as the Grizzlies had been.

And now look at us. Championship ring in 2019. Lots of good seasons before and after. The GROAT in Kyle Lowry, DeRozan became a star and Pascal and Fred followed. We’re actually relevant in a league dominated by Americans, and you guys all are like “Yeah, for the faith hope of lightning striking twice, I’m prepared to take all of that away and go have a 20 win season in the hope of improvement five years from now.” What kinda shit is that?

Yes, that last season was a disappointment, no doubt. But we have two borderline all-star players and two young lions and a starting SG who has revitalized his career here, and you lot wanna pitch all of them aside from Scottie under the bus for one bad season. Yes, Fred struggled badly at times last season. We desperately need a better bench. Poeltl staying would fix the center problem we had, otherwise we gotta go there too.

No team that is contending has the $$ to sign Jakob outright. We know that. His agent knows that. He will get paid better here than anywhere else. His odds of walking do exist but aren’t as high as you guys make it out to be. So why freak out?

And let’s assume for a sec you did toss Masai and/or Bobby under the bus, who the fuck you gonna replace them with who is better?

    CALM DOWN guys. Seriously.
