[Moore] With that said, there are two competing narratives on the talks. Portland has projected that they were unsure about paying Siakam a new max contract. League sources, on the other hand, have suggested that Siakam was unwilling to provide assurances he would re-sign next summer.

Let’s just avoid this guy. He’s 29, and id much rather trade it for a risky 22 yr old

  2. Almond_bongbong_1995

Siakam is the best fit next to Dame tbh tho

  3. TeamRebel208

If he won’t provide assurances he will resign with us you can’t trade for him especially if your a small market like Portland. To risky he bolts to a big market the next year.

who cares let him rot in Toronto while scoot puts him on a poster

  5. Carcrusher3

Lmao, all the raps fans calling us naive for thinking he wouldn’t re-sign with us

  6. Krustykrab8

Music to my not wanting to trade with the raptors ears. If he won’t give us the word he will resign with us that should slam the door shut on a deal. Maasai can run it back lol

IMO, this also sounds like Portland being able to make the case that they tried. I think this points to them keeping the pick.

Sounds like the only viable trade option now is Zion. Not sure if Portland wants to take that risk. There just doesn’t seem to be any other name out there that would work. Keep the pick!!!!!

No assurances? No deal. It’s not like we don’t have other options.

  10. FYI the whole context is that these are the alleged reasons why we’re not bothering with Pascal or OG anymore. Toronto trade is off the table.

  11. **Siakam’s Current Contract:**

    2023-24: $37,893,408

    **Team w/ Siakam Bird Rights:**

    2024-25: $42,900,000

    2025-26: $46,332,000

    2026-27: $49,764,000

    2027-28: $53,196,000

    Total: Four years, $192,192,000

    **Outside Team:**

    2024-25: $42,900,000

    2025-26: $45,045,000

    2026-27: $47,190,000

    2027-28: $49,335,000

    Total: Four years, $184,470,000

If Siakam were traded to Portland, there are about 8 million reasons why he would likely sign an extension. But for arguments sake, let’s consider the event where an outside team wanted to sign him. Unless it were significantly better odds (over playing next to Dame) to win the chip, would there be any logical reason for Siakam leaving and taking less money? *AND*, of the handful of teams that *may* (however remotely) fit that description, they all most definitely have their own cap problems to deal with already and it’s highly unlikely that they’d be able to straight up sign a player like Siakam without jumping through a bunch of magical hoops to somehow shed salary.

So realistically, anyone else besides Portland looking to sign Siakam would probably be a shittier team offering less money. He has pretty much every reason to stay and re-sign, that is, unless you don’t want to max him and another team does.

    Neutral fan take:
Much like Norm Powell, Siakam is way better than Blazers fans are giving him credit for perhaps due to lack of US media coverage.
He can definitely shoot. He shocked me last season with the mid-range shot he developed in the off-season. It’s super smooth and reminded me of Durant’s shooting with how soft and gentle it arrives at the basket.

He can rebound but is the fastest player on the floor so he’s sprinting up court after defensive stops. With that being said. He was getting enough rebounds to average a triple double early in the season.

He’s a gym rat and cares about winning over everything else.
If the Blazers have a good season he’ll definitely re-sign.

If the wheels fall of the cart and Dame asks for an out, I can’t see him wanting to stick around on a rebuilding team.

Should the Blazers trade for him?

    As an NBA chaos/drama fan:

Definitely. The next couple years might be his best years (he hasn’t peaked yet since started playing basketball later in life and hasn’t been injury prone). He’s consistently improved by leaps and bounds each off-season thanks to his work ethic.

    As a Blazers fan:

Trade Dame. Regardless of who they bring in, it won’t be even close enough to guarantee anything more than a competitive 2nd round play-off series that could go either way.
Dame is a Gobert or higher level asset that some dumb GM will overpay for. With the return on young assets, multiple 1st round picks, Scoot, Sharpe, Simons, that would make the Blazers one of the most desirable young franchises in the league.

  13. They don’t want to give him a contract, he doesn’t want to stay if he doesn’t get the contract. They’re a perfect match!
