I usually just lurk on this sub and on Reddit in general but Iāve seen this Porzingis thing here so many times I must break silence
I could not be happier that the Celtics just made this trade
1. KP is a good not great shooter/scorer. Both Horford and Grant Williams consistently shoot a higher % from 3 than KP on a similar number of attempts. This includes when Porzingis played with Luka and had every wide open look he could want. He consistently takes rushed, early shot clock 3s and doesnāt look to back down any smaller defenders. If his jumper isnāt on heās useless offensively
2. KP is a bad/terrible defender. He canāt guard anything on the perimeter and is weak at the bucket. His blocks inflate his defensive value, but he really canāt guard anywhere besides right at the rim. Specifically matching up with us, he canāt guard bam who routinely out muscles him and uses his quickness to get by him. In terms of team defense, whenever KP is on the floor, the Celtics have to play drop coverage which leads to more open 3 looks below the break + middies for Tyler bam and jimmy.
3. Financial implications. Theyāre going to pay a big tax this year w Jaylen brown coming up and if they want to keep him long term itāll come at the cost of grant Williams, Derrick white, Robert Williams
4. I will give that this gives them better rebounding but really I aināt worried at all. Some of yāall arenāt ready to hear this but Cody Zeller is a better post defender than KP
Edit: not to mention they lose brogdon who was a tremendous shooter and solid playmaker for them
