Baron Davis on Jeremy Lin’s “Linsanity” Moment & Carmelo Anthony’s Issues w/ It

Baron Davis in a podcast this week reveals a lot of interesting nuggets

– Both him and coach Mike D’Antoni were calling Lin, “Angels in the Outfield” from the disney movie

– His locker was next to Lin’s and Lin couldn’t even shower or something at the height of Linsanity

– There was legitimate tension in the locker room because of how popular Lin became, especially from Carmelo who felt overshadowed (something many Knicks have repeatedly mentioned but certain fans want to act as if was never the case)

-Baron when he signed the deal with the Knicks could barely walk and had no idea if he could even play.

  1. Loved Melo until Linsanity.

Melo looked more dejected than the opposing team during some of Lin’s big moments.

  2. PleaseShaveYourNeck

Carmelo is lucky Silver wasnt in charge when Linsanity was happening.

Think about the China money from Lins popularity, he would have sent Carmelo to the Wizards.

  3. shanmustafa

chauncey once said something like melo was happier in a loss getting 35 than in a win where he only got 17 and that’s all i needed to know

Haven’t seen Angles in The Outfield in years. I Wonder if it’s on Disney Plus.

  5. Raptors887

George Karl mentioned in his book that Carmelo was addicted to the spotlight and would get super pissed if somebody overshadowed him.

This sub will always bring up how melo didnt care that lin got so much attention. Its obvious melo was salty

  7. chickenripp

Melo always been one of the most overrated players

  8. Madterps2021

I am glad that Melo never won a ring, but JLin did. Karma is kind of real. Now Melo is retired and JLin is still competing in Taiwan.

Baron Davis the real one for speaking the truth.

Jeremy Lin’s response to Kenyon Martin about their different cultures a few years after Linsanity solidified who Jeremy Lin was as a person to me.

Dude was never going to lead a team to a championship, but he definitely had the potential to help as a 6th man and was never really given the chance. And I don’t count his few minutes in the finals as “helping” lol.

It’s pretty clear Linsanity happened because of a combination of him being underrated by everyone and coaching staff not preparing to defend against him. Once opponents adjust their defense to actually defend him, he can play his role as a 6th man, but for some reason no team wanted to give him that opportunity.

    > Baron when he signed the deal with the Knicks could barely walk and had no idea if he could even play.

    This is insane.

Carmelo will always be one of the players I hate. I get the appeal for some people but for me he will always be a one dimensional selfish player who was always out there for himself. He bitched at Denver a season after making the WCF, he was content being a loser in NY, and didn’t want to do anything beneficial for the team or others.

  13. Macro701

Melo became humble way too late in his career. He was only willing to be a team player when he was desperate to be on a roster at all, before then, he had a weird complex where a win through any efforts but his was illegitimate in his eyes.

Same dude who said he wouldn’t come off the bench in OKC despite being in steep decline.

Always tried to blame it on the coaches, like Karl and D’Antoni.

Such a pathetic loser, no doubt in my mind James pushed him out of LA because of his attitude.

could you PLEASE just let Baron Davis talk instead of interrupting him every 5 seconds? One of the best things an interviewer can do sometimes it shut the fuck up when a good storyteller is there.

  16. JOMO_Kenyatta

This sub is so hot and cold on players. It just depends on the thread and whoever the first few posters are.

  17. masterofallmars

What a man child. He’s lucky the HoF is easy as hell to get into because he definitely should not be remembered as one of the all-time greats.

Will never forget his interview at the 2012 ASG and the reporter was asking him about Jeremy Lin and he straight up changed the subject. Has his relationship with Lin ever been brought up in any podcast appearance he’s made and if so did he ever comment on it? Cause in Lin’s case it’s been brought up so many times that at one point he had to put the hammer down and say enough talk, I just want to move forward with my career cause whatever happened happened.

  19. Flabbypuff

At the end of the day it’s NBA champion Jeremy Lin vs ringless shot chucker Carmelo Anthony for ya

  20. thatsmejp

Melo was a a straight bitch. That punch when he was in the nuggets and then he backs away like a coward tells you everything about him

  21. drudru91soufendluv

everyone was really professional about it, but Dantoni suddenly resigning in the middle of the saga was sus to me at the time

the overlooked thing about those Linsanity games is that EVERYONE was shinin. Billy Walker, Novak, Jared Jefferies, old Tyson Chandler, Iman Shumpert…Landry fields got his bag cuz of Lin. its a shame Melo wasnt tryna be a part of something bigger than himself

  22. Asking4Afren

The fact that Melo felt overshadowed after already having a crazy magnitude of an impact in the NBA and fan base tells me he’s selfish asf and I’m happy we didn’t let him have a retirement tour that he and other fans believe deserved.

  23. Majestic_Fox_428

Carmelonoma single handedly killed Linsanity. He is so overrated. Played no defense. Only cares about his individual stats. I’m glad Jokic won a championship and Melo will never have his number retired in Denver. What a joke that he felt entitled to have his number retired when a better player than him has the same number.
