Interesting factoid on Supermax extension from ESPN article

From the section on Boston and Jalen Brown: “Since the NBA instituted the Designated Veteran Extension rule (supermax) in 2017, 11 of the 12 players who met the All-NBA criteria have signed the designated extension. The lone exception was Kawhi Leonard in San Antonio.”

Not trying to trigger any more Kawhi bashing, just thought that was legitimately interesting.

    Yes, I remember woj reporting that the Spurs didn’t feel comfortable giving him the Max without any quarantee he will be available.

    In retrospect it was a good decision to let him go.

    Total assets acquired for him were pretty good.

    * 5 season of Jakob Poeltl as starter
    * 3 seasons of DeMar as starter
    * Keldon Johnson
    * Malaki Branham
    * 2025 Chicago Bulls 1st Round Pick
    * 2024 Toronto Raptors 1st Round Pick
    * Sidy Cissoko
    * Four future Second Round Picks
    * Received Cash in a trade

    Kawhi wanted to move to LA and sign a huge shoe deal that Uncle Dennis said he couldn’t get in San Antonio. He signed a shoe deal with fucking New Balance for ~5mm/year. Meanwhile, our man Wemby is getting $100mm from Nike.
