EMONI BATES SCOUTING REPORT | 2023 NBA Draft | Cleveland Cavaliers | Eastern Michigan

#EmoniBates is one of the most polarizing prospects in the 2023 #NBADraft. The Eastern Michigan sophomore was previously thought of a surefire high pick in the #NBA, but his story and game isn’t as straightforward as it is made it out to be.

  1. I think he should bump his weight up to 195 that’s an extra 15 Ibs for a 6’8” player. It’ll help him create more space and absorb contact. It will help on defense; Also I think he should play sg. He’s not good enough of a defender and it doesn’t project to play sf

  2. Do do understand much of a hype on Emoni last couple of weeks. I get a lot of Reels with him. He was good at the combine, but not incredible to forget about his major weaknesses

  3. This dude has every red flag in the book bruh 😂 I really don't see it with this guy.. Hes going to need years in the g league refining a skill that will make him useful off the bench in the league.. Right now those terrible pull ups and atrocious defense isn't going to do it.. I see him going in the late 2nd round at best since this draft is just so deep with good prospects and he's just not that great a prospect in reality.

  4. Non athletic, short arms, can’t jump had a weak vertical, average handle, doesn’t make anyone else better, high volume shooter, plays no defense, hasn’t played elite competition consistently, he can shoot when he’s on but when he is off he’s off. If his shot isn’t falling what else can do out on the floor? If he does get drafted he’ll be spending time in the g league

  5. bates was a great roll of the dice pick for the cavs. the cavs obviously have to have a plan for him, but above all, he has to be coachable. if he is then he can definitely become a good roll player, likely as a spot up floor spacer with the ability to create his own shot when things break down or the shot clock is dwindling. he's a project but one with a lot of upside.

  6. Cavs infrastructure might be ideal – but he will be off ball – fed by elite point guard Garland and backed up by great bigs in Allen and Mobley – but will have to hit open 3s and on cuts to basket

  7. If he can put on about 15 lbs AND develop a reliable catch and shoot game, he can be the fifth starter for the CAVS. He has the potential to be a very good 3 pt shooter, if he can get a little stronger, he can attack some close outs, and be an average NBA defender in a season or so. He could be a steal, or maybe he's headed for oblivion.
