Pels rumors: Damian Lillard and Zion Williamson in New Orleans? Pelicans need to make this trade

The New Orleans Pelicans have called about a Damian Lillard trade. Does Dame make sense on the Pels and would they need to give up Zion Williamson or Brandon Ingram? Jake Madison explains why the Portland Trail Blazers are in a weird position and how the Pels can take advantage. Plus, would it take that much to beat an offer from the Miami Heat?

  1. I love this move jake.!
If we're in win now mode then this would show our fans and the league we contenders!

  2. Can't stand the "do right be him" argument. Dude signed a contract and now wants out. They owe him nothing now. That trade would be insane! Arguably best roster in NBA if that happens

  3. Honestly, I love Damian and us to trade for him but if we give up that much I feel like it doesnt move the needle that much than what we have now and we have no more assets if for some reason dame just doesnt work out. The starting lineup would be great but how do we fill the rest of our roster. That leaves us with on hawkins and naji as decent bench players and not much else.

  4. If I were Portland or Lillard I'd be insulted by Miami's offer. And I don't think the Heat would have been in the Finals if Tatum hadn't gotten injured at the start of game 7. I dare say the trade you proposed (if everyone remained healthy) would probably be the most talented team D.L. has ever been a part of. So I wouldn't view it as shafting Dame if it went through. I hate making trades with teams the Pels will play 4+ times each season, plus the west is so loaded with SA & OKC only going to get better. I'd be fine with the trade. But I'll believe the Pelicans pay into the luxury tax when I see it happen. Until then it's as mythical as a Sasquatch riding a unicorn.

  5. Strike while the iron is hot on the young guys. They're value can easily drop like Hero and Poole….Nance, Murphy, Herb, Lewis and picks…keep the starters add Dame

  6. Pretty accurate.. however dame doesn’t want to go pels…. Organization reminds me of the blazers organization

  7. Was with you until you said cj. Cj is not going back to a team that traded him away and to think that might happen is just crazy

  8. As always, NOP fans, you are fortunate to have someone as professional as Jake. I watch these from around the league and Jake is one of the more knowledgeable, and most realistic of the bunch. Too many have abject homers who want to give up complete garbage for another teams superstar. That is not how deals work. Pels would be getting the best player by FAR, and Jake doesn't ignore that.

  9. like complete being honest here. How realistic do you think the chances are pels get dame. At this point it just feels like pels are saying they “called” just to say they tried maybe i’m wrong?

  10. If only it was as simple as getting Damian Lillard and just having to pay the luxury tax, I would say it is worth it provided that CJ was healthy last year and still played bad, JV wasn't a walking double double who can also shoot outside, and if both Zion and BI were healthy and played up to their All-star potentials! It is just too hard for a small market team like New Orleans Pelicans to try to recover from gambling the house away on a hope and prayer that an aging player will help the team to be a contender! When are we going to learn that we can't afford to give up multiple first round picks and two good role players and a good, young player who is a few years from his prime for a 33 year old 6'2" guard who could very well be passed his prime! I could easily envision watching Zion, BI, and Dame all sitting on the bench with injuries in January or February while this team is getting demolished by opposing teams losing consecutive games by the dozens just by looking at the trends from last year! When you put all of your eggs in one basket, you can't be surprised if they all get broken when you drop the basket and even end up with eggs on your face!!! The New Orleans Pelicans need to stay the course. Build around the current core by adding good, young talents to the team at a good price!

  11. Dame says he wants to go to Miami, but Miami has nothing to offer.

Pelicans can offer CJ, JV, Garrett Temple, Kira Lewis, Dyson Daniels, and some 1st rounders for Dame.

If Portland would accept that offer, we would have Dame, BI, Zion, Trey Murphy, Herb Jones, Larry Nance, Jose Alvarado, Jordan Hawkins = championship.

Forget the luxury tax. A team with that lineup is worth it. Do the deal.
