I’ve never seen as much hate in Sports as I saw that day.

“No way this is real. Those rumors are getting ridiculous.”

“Oh shitttt! We fucking got KD!!!”
    – all of us 7 years ago lol

It was cool, but I felt like it was a little cheap. I understood why we became so hate-able, but hey rings are rings!

I remember thinking hey I can go back on r nba now after all those 3-1 and man’s game memes.

And then thinking “never mind” after spending 5 mins on that sub.

I was suprised. The RDC video that came out that day never gets old.

I was hyped for half an hour straight 😂😂💥

  8. I was shocked and thrilled. I was one of the people who thought there was no chance he would choose us. The Finals loss still stung a little but the KD news made the avalanche of 3-1 memes a lot less annoying!

I made my girlfriend at the time read the letter to me while I was on the toilet. She read the whole thing with “wizards” and “washington” in place of “oakland” and “warriors”. I remember being so confused about the whole letter. Then she said “just kidding, he chose the Warriors”. Funniest thing she ever did, she got me good.

Remember refreshing that player’s tribune homepage like my life depended on it

i walked down the stairs that morning and quietly said “dad, we got kd”. we were going to the store and drove on 880 and saw the “welcome to the bay, kd” poster on oracle. what a day

Was dead asleep and my wife very softly said. What does KD signing with the Warriors mean? My eyes popped open and immediately ran to my computer to read the news. What a glorious day that was.

As a warrior fan, I was happy for us, 100%. Big 4 = ez chips.

After the initial shock, I realized how much I hated the move. Abandoning Russ, joining a behemoth of a team, all of the same feelings pretty much 99% of the media shared during those weeks/months/seasons. I mean, damn. His legacy was forever tarnished that day, imo.

I still welcomed the 2 chips he got with us, and I’m sure in due time, most people won’t even care. But in that moment, I couldn’t support it as much as I wanted to.

We still celebrating to this day, truly the real 4th of July holiday.

I remember I was 18, visiting family in Chicago (coming from the PNW) and didn’t have a smartphone and they didn’t have TV so the way the news broke to me was via a newspaper on a stand and I couldn’t believe my eyes, it’s all I thought about the whole trip after that. Loved when we played against him but knew we would win multiple titles with him

Honestly thought it was a joke/rumor for a while. It wasn’t until one of my friends talked about how he was gonna get some new socks with KD in a Warriors jersey that it really sunk in.

  18. chibithug

i just remember looking at my phone and yelling “holy shit” repeatedly lol

  19. jb-schitz-ki

my reaction was I started singing: “Chip… chip chip chip… chip chip chip… chip chip chiiiip”

to the tune of “the eye of the tiger”

Meh. It had been talked about in the media for a full year before it happened. People love the narrative of Dray calling Durant after losing game 7 but the Dubs were planning on getting KD regardless. It was one of the factors that led to Barnes tanking that Finals. He knew he wasn’t going to be offered a contract he wanted.

Couldn’t believe we landed a big one since Barry Bonds

Absolute chaos. I remember after the season we won’t mention I was talking to my buddy about the “ what if” bc we always would play 2K against each other using the Thunder and Dubs. And I remember him just sort of laughing it off. But to say I expected it would be a lie. I called him so hype and ignorant that day when I saw the news lmao.

Still wonder how different things would be if he had stayed and signed long term. Those 4 guys are an insanely top tier all time basketball fit. Even given the injuries I’d say they could of won at least 2 more by now making 4 total. I could see a world where Kd is on the fringe of the MJ / LBJ debate. Winning cures all and Imo he hasn’t done anything to really boost his legacy since leaving. All time great career for sure but you know he wants to be more successful then his teams have been the past few years.

That being said obviously it didn’t work out that way. He should of never hooked up with Kyrie in BKN. All in all he gave us his best years and put his body on the line. He’s a GOAT forever in my book.

I remember refreshing the players tribute website just as it happened to be posted and I was thinking am I reading a joke? There’s no fucking way Durant is coming to the Warriors. I refreshed it a few times and couldn’t believe it was real.
