Atlanta Hawks All-Star Dejounte Murray and CEO of Klutch Sports Rich Paul are finalizing a four-year, $120 million veteran maximum extension with the franchise, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Deal includes a player option.

Honestly, that’s a pretty good deal for Atlanta. That’s Tyler hero money and as much as DJ is flawed, he’s a better player than Tyler right now
Very reasonable price.
It may not be outrageous, like FVV money, but I am just glad we are not paying it. It might be a little chickenshit to root for ATL to fail and part of that being DJM bolting or wrecking their salary cap, but…doesn’t look like it.
And they have Spurs alums running their operation now, so unlikely to be any real dumb shit moves that put them deep into the bad team realm. I know we all have our fantasies about picking top 5 for owning the picks belonging to the corpse of the Atlanta Hawks, but….yeah…
EDIT: What I mean to say is, its a hefty price tag, but far from crippling and I think they will hang around the 6th-10th seeds for the foreseeable future rather than crater.
East is gonna get tougher as the next couple years progress and this move seems to me to put Atlanta on a bit of a mediocrity treadmill like Chicago is in right now or we were a few years back. But I get that they’re not a big free agent destination so I suppose I can’t blame them for locking the guy up on a pretty good deal.
Still liking the looks of the picks we got from them.

Was hoping he would leave Atlanta next offseason and allow those picks they gave us to be worth even more but I’m happy for him. It’s not crazy money but it’s still a lot and I’m sure a relief to not have to worry about an injury tanking his value next year and beyond

Damn. Love him more than most here, shocked he signed this deal and didn’t wait because hawks gonna tank at some point. Trae will blow up that team and demand a trade. That said ATL had to invest in DJ they gave up too much for him
I think the front office was hoping ATL would rebuild. Him staying there guarantees the Hawks won’t be terrible and the picks will be meh at best.
My guess is Atlanta is going to range somewhere between 4th and 10th in the East for the foreseeable future.
Still, the trade is a huge reason why we have Wemby so I’m happy.
30 M is very good for an All-Star guard who plays defense. Good deal for Atlanta.
