42nd Highest Player in the league, BEFORE contracts balloon next season. This is a team-friendly deal that can assist ATL in becoming a contender if the front office continues to make smart moves

For reference, a few of the players making more than DJM:

Rudy Gobert ~ 43 p/y
Zach LaVine ~ 45 p/y
Fred Van Vleet ~ 42 p/y
Desmond Bane ~ 41 p/y
Jerami Grant ~ 32 p/y
ToBias Harris ~ 39 p/y
Ben Simmons ~ 38 p/y
Jrue Holiday~ 38 p/y
CJ McCollum ~ 33 p/y (descending)
Michael Porter Jr ~ 37 p/y

Chris Paul, DeAndre Ayton, Gordon Hayward are all at about 32.

In 2 years, he will make less than:

Julius Randle
Jordan Poole
Tyler Herro

While making 3M more than:

Anfarnee Simmons
Andrew Wiggins
RJ Barrett

And he will be in his prime. With pending FA going big the next few years, there’s a chance this man isn’t a top 60 paid NBA player. Incredible deal, he’s still rich as hell, and it gives ATL an IMMENSE amount of flexibility. Now it is on the team to build.

TL;DR:

BUY THIS MANS JERSEY to give him a little love off the kickback $ …. And pray to the basketball gods that the Hawks capitalize on one of the best situations they’ve found themselves in, in a long time.

Dude is so much better than Fred vanfleet who got 3/130 while he took 4/120 and that says dude wants to win. If the Hawks screw this up I will feel bad for him because he could’ve gotten 50 million or more if he wasn’t being loyal. They would be idiots to use him in a siakam trade so hopefully that’s over. Plus Siakam isn’t giving a discount and he will make make like 50 million a year that’s just to much for him.
