Have we ever been this exited?

Do we unanimously agree with the fact that our young guys are some of the most promising in the league?

You must’ve never been around the Lavine, Wiggins, Jones, Kat era

  2. The bounce bros and kat early stages were just as exciting tbh

KAT, Wiggs, and LaVine era had promise like no other.

I think the difference is Ant is seen as a future superstar with solid to great young players around him (Jmac and Naz Reid). KAT, Wiggs and LaVine were hyped to the point where the Wolves were potentially the future of the league.

Can you imagine a lineup in two years of Ant Jaden Minot Miller and Naz? The athleticism and switch ability could be deadly.

I was more excited last year with the promise of KAT/Gobert. Until that situation either progresses or resolves itself, I can’t be super excited.

If you are pointing at the three in the photo, the two 6-9 or 6-10 bigs don’t average even 5 rebounds a game. Kind of a big issue. Ant is a guard and averages over 5 rebounds.

    Offensively – scoring:

    1. Ant has 130 games reaching 20 points in career. With 206 starts. (3 yrs)
    2. Naz has 15 games reaching 20 points in career. With 43 starts. (4 yrs)
    3. Jaden has 9 games reaching 20 points in career. With 137 starts. (3 yrs)

Ant is like worth Ten of each of those other two players. Two of these players are way over hyped until they prove much more yet. Naz, while not consistent has done more offensively. Jaden has done more defensively.

    To contrast Naz/Jaden offense,

    * Nowell had 9 games reaching 20 points in career. With only 3 starts (4 yrs) Uh Jaden? Uh… Nowell with 47 to 137 starts in three years would easily be around 50 or more games above 20+ pts. Just to show how much less offense these other two are offering with the amount of time they get to play.

    Core?

I want to see Minott and Miller get a few big shots to play this season. To see just how expendable these expensive “core” players some of you talk about so much really are.

Having players willing/capable to play man defense is really nice, especially when for so long we didn’t have any. That’s a great reason to be excited about McDaniels, etc. But they have to actually be much better than what I’m seeing offensively to deserve some of the Core talk I’m hearing. As well as willing / able to use their height for rebounding. We know opponent second chances are a problem for this team during long stretches in games watching leads evap. Until then they are just positive two way players. We can be hopeful they continue to develop. I’m all for that at least.

Compared to the past “great young core” many refer to:

    1. Kat! had 140 games reaching 20pts in his first three years here. 246 starts.
    2. Wiggins had 136 games reaching 20pts in his first three years. 245 starts.
    3. LaVine had 51 games reaching 20pts in his three years here. 120 starts.

I mean we are talking 154 games of at least 20pts from the current young trio suggested. In contrast, we are talking 327 games from the previous young core trio in their first three seasons. The offensive difference is a bit of a joke.

Towns was every bit as impressive his first three seasons as Ant. Albeit without the defense you might hope. In fact his second season 62 out of 82 games he scored over 20+ pts. Let me know when Ant reaches that consistency. But Jaden and Reid aren’t on the same offensive wavelength of Wiggins/LaVine. Maybe in future dreams.

So what’s the difference now? We are expecting much much more out of the balance of the roster now to carry offensively. For sure if Kat is traded out. I sure hope they can allow some of the new depth to settle into regular roles to help them offer it more consistently. Instead of it fluctuating constantly for so many. Because this new “core” is gonna struggle to carry if someone like Towns gets traded. If Towns is gone, the team needs to play much better team basketball to get more out of everyone. Will that fit Finches scheme? He had to do it more last year so if it happens, hope he’s ready to allow team ball.
