Andre Drummond’s message to young hoopers: “Pouting on the bench, making faces, not cheering your teammates… I was that guy. I was a 100 million dollar guy. I had a bad attitude. I went from $100 million to a f–king league minimum.”

Didn’t he still have attitude issues literally this season though
Bro still has attitude issues tho lmao, literally just this year.
Kuminga in shambles
I think the real message is always stat pad
I was that guy. Still am that guy but also was that guy.
Instagram comments saying stuff like “Who cares you’re still making millions” when they know damn well that’s not the point he’s trying to make. Bunch of idiots they are.
This is hype. Guy could make a good coach.
bro the past couple seasons all of r/nba always clowns on andre but i always stand up for him and support him and respect his game . . . he is a beast and seems super chill and one hell of a role model for the youngsters!
good looks andre!
I **used** to be a piece of shit, I’m not anymore!
Yes, vibes is important. That’s how DeAndre Jordan still has a job in this league even though he’s been washed af for years now, whereas Demarcus Cousins is playing in Puerto Rico.
he pouted harder than any player i have ever watched. cool that he owned up to it
this the guy who tapped icarly?
I’ve seen so many guys echo a similar message to their AAU teams
Guys on both sides of it. The classic good locker room guy and the unfortunate burnouts. I wonder if it’ll get through any of those kids’ heads
Lot of weirdly negative comments in here lol
Wow, thanks for everything dude. Wish you could have learned sooner. Will never forger the time when this clown shrugged off a Giannis 3 pointer in the playoffs and he splashed it. Yet pistons fans say we are too hard on him.
The rise of analytics have done one thing—stat padding as some have mentioned in the comments has less value than it had in the past. Drummond is a big example of that.
It really does take some guys having to receive a pretty painful smack in the face and dose of reality to wisen up, and oftentimes that leads to greater appreciation of being able to play professional basketball or any other sport at the pinnacle of the profession, because that is in itself a huge accomplishment. When things are all going your way, you can very easily forget that. Humility is important.
Yea, we fucking know
Well also you you can’t shoot pass or dribble and have 0 offense to offer anyone he can’t leave that part out
But how many gonna listen?

I think what gets lost here is a lot of players don’t love basketball and do it because they are gifted athletes to make money. NBA is one of the most visible leagues like 5v5, no helmets, no giant soccer fields, you see everything.
W accountability
Way to be introspective Drummond. Atta not for real
Put this in the player’s bible with Pat Bev’s advice of finding a role and sticking to it. The words are obvious but to hear it from him knowing his history…huge. There’s no way this can go in one ear and out the other so easily
Dudes who don’t know shit are trashing Dre for no reason in this thread. I watch him more than you. He’s been walking the walk since he got to Chicago and making the most of every minute he gets. FOH
Nice that he realized this about 5 years too late…
It’s good that he’s showing some self-awareness about it.
The problem is that you were that guy ON THE COURT, not because you were that guy on the sidelines. If you actually cared about playing in a way that helps with winning, you’d have made a lot more money even if you dgaf while sitting on the bench.
Cam Thomas take notes.
Was Poole really that bad? I mean we know who Drummond is friends with so
Drummond gonna be the tallest NBA head coach of all time
I’m sure his message won’t get through to most kids, that is the unfortunate part of being young, but damn I’d be remiss if I didn’t say they should heed this man’s words to their core. Wow, my respect level for him just went up exponentially. Some lessons forever will only be learned via living it. Takes a humbled man to come out and share this story to the next generation. Respect.
Wow 100 million?? Hope Dre got a lot of money set aside. Hopefully he continues to be a good teammate and teach younger kids how to be a pro.
I wasn’t thrilled when the Bulls signed Drummond but he has been a very solid backup for us. He always plays hard and at times he just dominates second units with his combo of size, speed, and skill. It seems like he has adopted a new mindset and will probably stick around the league for a long time because of it.
That’s correct
