[Charania] Just in: The NBA Board of Governors has approved two new gameplay changes for the 2023-24 season, per sources: – In-game penalty for flops resulting in technical foul free throw – A second coach’s challenge awarded if first challenge is successful

Both changes sound good. Not retaining the challenge after a success was strange.

That flop rule is gonna be hard to officiate and it’s gonna be ugly. Not personally looking forward to even more whistles — particularly questionable ones

The Flop punishment should have been something that gets tracked, assessed, and penalized after the game. Like awarding a tech, or a fine, or even something like starting the next game with a personal foul. I think maybe they already do the fine for flopping, but it could be way more widespread.

The refs obviously can’t get anything right 100% of the time live in the game at game speed. So now we’ve just added another thing they have to watch for and make judgement calls on. This is not gonna go well.
